Is $30,000 A Year Still the Norm?

Was just wondering if anyone knew the average yearly salary for most people these days to live a "comfortable" lifestyle.....

Is it in the $40K now?

No not up in the 40 K.

Last time I checked it was 33 K, if anything it's gone down since then, though.

LOL @ 30K - 40K being the norm or comfortable?

youre kidding right? not in nyc. maybe in south dakota or idaho.

30-40K is a salary for a mcdonalds/burger king worker or a high school drop out or ged.

i made 60-70K outta college

In what life?

what u make is what "u make"

i guess what dude was asking is what's the national average

and unless your the store manager(even then) your prolly not making 30-40 k @ mcdonalds or burger king,

s**t if high school drop outs could make 30-40 k the drop out rate would be a lot higher homie

From my understanding $30K is $14-15 an hour.

Mickey Ds not giving that type of money away.

it's not comfortable by any means IMO either. just the average income. and yeah it's about 35k.

and lol at mcdonalds paying 40k a year. what mcdonalds do you go to?

40 hour work week times 52 weeks in a year = 2,080 hours worked in a full time job. (not considering holidays).

$40,000 a year divided by 2,080 hours = $19.23 an hour. McDonalds ain't payin that

NYC is overpriced like s**t too...so you can't compare that city to the rest of the US

and McDonalds is a 40K a year job? f**k outta here . I don't even think managers make that much working there.

and to threadstarter: everyone's definition of "comfortable" is different. You can't really say 1 salary at a minimum is comfortable for ppl, cuz not everybody has the same needs/wants in life and some pp do more with less or can't do with or without, etc.

obviously were from different states....

but managers from...McDonalds aint any dude from the street.

Managers at Mickey D's make 20-25 dollars an hour around here. In NYC.

At the very least and starting is 30-40K

Thats what managers make.

I'm not talking about the high school kid or the 16 year old flipping burgers for 8 or 9 dollars an hour.

^^ And the TS is talking about the norm. Not managers of fast food chains. So yes, 30-40k is avg as already stated.

From Wikipedia:

"The median income per household member (including all working and non-working members above the age of 14) was $26,036 in 2006"

So $26,000 average in the U.S. This was in 2006. So you could probably say about $30,000 - $35,000 now including adjustments for inflation.

If you're a single, no kids living in a city with reasonable prices makin 24K a year, you could live very comfortably without a bunch of unnecessary bills.

satellite cable bill $80
cellphone $60
lights $30
energy $50
gas monthly $100-150
food $300

If you make 2Gs a month you can do very well. And start some nice savings.

Seriously? lol ...c'mon man.

First off electric bill will never be $30 unless you're living in the dark with no AC.

Also, what about rent? How about home insurance? Car insurance? Car note (unless it's paid off but on that kind of salary I doubt it is).

With $2,000 a month you'd be in debt very fast. If you struggle you could possibly get by check to check. But no way in hell would you be living a comfortable lifestyle with that kind of money
