Quite a lot of stupid people get college degrees.

at that determining intelligence.

it didn't though. the thread starter chose to use those words, which in fact, makes him stupid.

i have a degree and let me tell you,i have been to school with plenty of educated people.....but they are far from smart. title of the study should be "most educated cities" not "smartest cities"

i agree but believe me when i say that its true that tampa IS one of the dumbest cities, if it were truly based on that, we'd be number 1 and not 4.

Actually, Bill Gates dropped out of college. Lots of other Billionaires never even finished high school. If people are talking about intelligence that equates to money, then college or higher education isn't required. It's all about who wants it more. There are a lot of broke a.ss college graduates competing for jobs at McDonald's while there are lots of millionaires and billionaires who never went to college or even graduated high school. A perfect example would be the man in my avatar, Henry Ford, his success goes without saying and he never even finished elementary school.

I'm not saying avoid education, but people need to quit with this "college degree = success" bulls**t. Don't get me started on the actual numbers involved.

Better yet, read this article I wrote.

I love when people use the Bill Gates argument. Bill Gates came from an upper middle class family, is a computer genius, and dropped out of HARVARD. The average college drop out from some regular college is most likely not going to be a millionaire. I bet if you look at most millionaires and billionaires, almost all of them will have a college degree. Sure there are a lot of broke college grads competing for Mickey D jobs, but that's mainly due to the recession, and when the economy picks up, they will start finding better jobs. Having a college degree takes you further in life and opens up more opportunities than not having one.

Studies have shown that (at least in Canada) University graduates on average post significantly higher intelligence scores than the average population and another study yet to be published found that post-grad students outperform the average population by about 20%.

I can't believe Washington.. Out of the 5 schools I applied to in DC and Arlington, all of their graduate rates were less than like 20%. Retention rate was in the 70s.
