Said Lou DiBella, Martinez's promoter, "Martinez is not afraid of anybody and we did the deal that HBO wanted us to do. My take on the f!ght it's the best f------ f!ght the rest of the year. Period. It's the best f!ght for f!ght fans and they don't have to fork over $60 to watch it on pay-per-view."

Martinez, Williams pre weigh-in

On Friday, reigning WBC middleweight champion Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez and three-time world champion Paul “The Punisher” Williams went to the scales for the Official WBC 30-day Weigh-In. Martinez weighing in at 176, from his camp in Oxnard, CA and from Wash., DC, Williams weighed 162 pounds. The contract weight for the Saturday, November 20 bout at Atlantic City Boardwalk Hall is 157-pounds.

Sergio Martinez: “Dropping weight has never been an issue for me. It hasn’t been hard. It’s more difficult to get in the ring and battle against Paul Williams or Kelly Pavlik. Cutting weight… that’s easy. My weight loss won’t slow me down. On the contrary, I gain speed. The speed will bring more of the element of surprise. With more surprise brings more potential and ability. I’ll be stronger than my last f!ght against Williams and Kelly Pavlik.”

Paul Williams: “I don’t see Sergio’s weight making a difference,” said The Punisher. “He’s been doing this his entire career and he has been prevailing and performing. If he weighed in at 176 then he must have started the camp weighing 200lbs. Ultimately what matters, is that he comes in at 157 at the official weigh in. I had lunch 2 hours before I weighed-in to be sure I would be within weight guidelines (chuckling).”

HBO's Head Sees Big Things For Williams-Martinez Winner

On November 20, at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, which is the site of their first meeting, Paul Williams and Sergio Martinez will go to war for a second time. Last December they traded knockdowns in the first round and went to war for the remaining eleven. Williams won a close majority decision. The rematch took a lot of effort to finalize. HBO Sports President, Ross Greenburg, spent a lot of time pushing both sides to reach an agreement.

"I guess that we drove everyone crazy in the process of getting this f!ght done again. We drove the parties in both camps crazy," said Greenburg. "But the reason for that is because, you know, I sat at ringside for their first f!ght, and it was a great f!ght. So, not only as the president of HBO sports, but also, as a fan, why wouldn't you want to see it again?"

Depending on the result, there might be a manifestation of interest in perhaps a clash between Manny Pacquiao and Williams, who once defeated Antonio Margarito in a welterweight bout, or one featuring Martinez against Magarito, who stopped Martinez by seventh-round knockout in February of 2000.

"Whoever wins between Martinez and Williams is obvously going to be on top of the world, and, whoever loses, is certainly not going anywhere. They are two, very gifted athletes who happen to be at a similar weight," said Greenburg.

"I think that that's really what this f!ght is about also. There are certain times when gifted athletes are in the boxing ring together, and Martinez and Williams are two of the best athletes in the ring today."
