Questions about Insanity Workout (starting it tomorrow)

For those that have done it, or are in the process of doing it, when do you feel is the best time to do these workouts?

Morning? Night?

I've already looked over the meals in the nutrition guide and most of them are things i normally eat minus the quantities/portions. But when it says something along the lines of 2 oz. deli-style turkey brea$t what should i be looking for because i thought over the counter from the deli the meats weren't "healthy" in the sense you may think.

Im not going to be taking any protein shakes during it, just the suggested foods and whatnot.

Well for the first question it probably doesn't matter.. Treat it like a workout. Whenever it's most convenient, just do it. You're not going to get better results if you work out earlier or later.

And the deli meats they're talking about aren't those pre-packaged processed ones like bologna. You go to a butcher's shop and they have whole cooked/roasted chicken or turkey brea$t that they slice for you. Some supermarkets have them in packages as well.

thats what i do now basically. whenever its convenient. the thing is with this meal schedule im gonna be consuming around 500 cal meals and i dont wanna throw it up when i head into these loaded cardio workouts. obviously im not gonna eat right before but you get what im saying.

1. setting up the daily meals will be fine
2. if i dont eat BEFORE the workout, not immediately before but some time before the workout and its intense cardio yes i am drained. i used to run 6 miles or so at 5 am then go to class at around 7:30 am and i would be shot cause i ran on an empty stomach and would take naps periodically thereafter. but my problem was that if i ate a little before the run i felt nauseous during the run.
3. ive always had trouble sleeping, excessive amounts of energy, but if i do cardio that usually wears me out enough to go to bed at a respectable hour.

i did the entire p90x program, except i made my own workout for phase 3 (made it much harder). i lost 20 lbs of fat and gained 6 lbs of muscle. i was pretty strict on my diet. low carbs, high protein. last couple months i havent really worked out because of a busy schedule, but i'm starting insanity today mixed with some p90x. i like combining them because it allows you to shed pounds and also build muscle.

just stick to it... the first couple weeks you probably wont see anything. once u realize that your clothes are fitting better and see notice yourself slimming down, you'll be addicted

It said to use the Harris Benedict equation to calculate how much calories i should be eating

step 1: men: 66 + (6.23 x weight in pounds) + (12.7 x height in inches) - (6.8 x age in years)

step 2: then multiply that by 1.7

step 3: then with that number:
- for weight loss, subtract 500 calories
- for weight maintenance, leave the amount alone
- for weight gain, add 250-300 calories

after doing the first two steps my number was 2,977 calories to consume daily. That seems like a hell of a lot, and a lot more if i try to add 300 calories to gain muscle over this period. I'm 5'8-5'9, 157-160lbs.

Does anyone know where I can find a rip of the Insanity DVD. Been wanting to get on it before the semester start but all they have in the jukebox is p90x. I'm strong enough; want to get on them body weight exercises. Thanks.

(Edit: did a little searching and found it)

66 + (6.23 x 157.6) + (12.7 x 69) - (6.8 x 23) = 1767.748 cal

1767.748 cal x 1.7 = 3005 cal

Ehh 1.7 is kinda high for an activity factor if you are only doing Insanity. 1.55 would be more suitable. That'd be about 3200 calories if you're looking to put on size.

3200 of isn't bad at all. I'm at around 4000.

thats what the suggested activity thing was in the manual so i went with that. and after doing it 2 days, i agree with it. its intense. s**t ppl in the training video are quitting

but yeah with this meal plan i can eat 500 cal meals like its nothing. its all about portions with this and im adjusting to the amount of calories pretty easily.
