"That dude is a genius with his craft. He's got all the qualities that it takes for somebody to blow up to superstardom. He's got character, he's got lyrics, he knows how to put songs together. His wittiness. I'm the type of rapper that I try to make my stuff as witty as possible. Jay-Z comes up with some real clever lines to say. From the time he came out up till now, he grew musically — not so much lyrically. He was crazy lyrical on his first album. He grew musically as far as what plays on that radio and what bumps in that club. I think he just mastered that sh--. Dude is in a class by himself. Dudes ain't even touching him as far as I'm concerned."

Nas is the greatest emcee to grace the mic, if you are too ignorant to understand it, then i dont know what to tell you

it aint about multi-syllables, it aint about who sold more albums, it aint about who all the 15 year olds say "lost"

they were not around for him in the beginning, and they dont have an understanding of real hip-hop, they are slaves to mainstream radio rap, their opinions should not be taken serious

as far as content, lyrics, albums, concepts, story telling:

nobody is touching Nasir Jones, and your favorite rapper would probably say the same thing
Wrong! *charlie murphy voice* Rakim is the GOAT

Lyrics=Nas
Flow=Jay
Albums=Jay (although nas isn't far behind)

Nas is a the better lyricist hands down no arguing there but Jay-z is the better Artist/emcee IMO of course, they are both very capable and accomplished emcee's so its not like you can go wrong with either......

If n*ggaz could look inside my mind, you'll find
where bodies are buried, first look past the hotties who dimes
Go to the center, enter with caution, past the braincell graveyard
where weed's responsible for memory loss
Let's witness, the horrific, the stench'll make you nauseous
See what I seen every day I live with this torture
Lightin spliffs up to stay high like 24 hours
Sleep with my heat, wash with my gun in the shower
My tongue is power, it thrills women, k!lls demons
Long as I'm still breathin I'm still winnin, I'll teach 'em
The hood converted from trey bags to 20's a girl
Everybody had money, every summer was real ill
Four-finger rings, dope dealers, 'caine/Kane
"No Half Steppin'" with flat tops when Rakim reigned
Radios on card tables, Benetton, the Gods buildin
Ask for today's mathematics, we Allah's children
And this was goin on in every New York ghetto
Kids listened, Five Percenters said it's pork and Jell-o
We coincide, we in the same life, maybe a time difference
on a different coast, but we share the same sunlight
Your part of the world, might be like colors and gangs
While on my side, brothers'll murder for different things
But it all revolve around drugs, fame and shorties
Stuck for your bling, stripped for your chain, the same story
From, Czechoslovakia to Texas metropolis
Them, treacherous rocksters in the Mexican mafias
Be scrappin with tats on they back, violent wars
Nothin less than a lethal injection if ever caught
Courtrooms, eagles and flags, American style
While in our world, the ghetto stays incredibly foul
Watchin for paint chips, don't want no led in yo' child
But them gangstas put lead in yo' child, the bezzy be out
The chain be like a hundred K
Shinin since Roxanne Shante' made "Runaway"; that's been a minute
Genesis is deep, my features are that of a God
It's not a facade it's a fact, these rappers wanna be Nas
My Exodus doesn't exist
I'll never leave the streets, it's all in my mind
Even with sleep I'm duckin nines in my dreams
Si-rens, wide awake, why'd I think it would change
Can't hide when you famous or even try to do the same things like
Somebody's always watchin, my life
Before I, walk out the door I size up every option
Eyes cut every direction, it's like God or guns
Which is better protection? Can't decide, that's a hard one
I mean they wanna see me in prison, the chains bamboozled
Headline readin "Rapper Slain From a Man Shootin"

At the end of the day Nas and Jay is a toss up because Jay got hot bars out the a.ss and memorable verses he just has a more consistant flow but nobody was f**king with Nas's flow in his IWW-I am days

you blatantly don't like Jay, and cant fathom the fact that Reasonable Doubt is better than any album Em has dropped.

And as for a memorable verse from Jay? look at his last album you ignant a.ss hater...

I was gonna k!ll a couple rappers
But they did it to themselves
I was gon' do it with the flow
But they did it with their sales
I was gon' 9/11 'em, but they didn't need the help
And they did a good job them boys is talented as hell
Cuz not only did they brick they put a building up as well
They ran a plane into that building and when that building fell
Ran to the crash site with no masks and inhaled
Toxins deep inside their lungs until both of them was filled
Blew a cloud out like a L into a jar then took a smell
Cuz they heard that second hand smoke k!lls
n*ggas thought they was ill found out they was...ILL
And it's like you knew exactly how I wanted you to feel

MMLP > Reasonable Doubt? GTFOH. You dont have to like Jay, thats fair enough, but to discredit Reasonable Doubt and throw MMLP over it is just thats close to borderline stan behaviour.

Nas is better all around, anything jay-z droped as of recent years was just deleted off my desktop. now Jay's first 3 cds plus dynasty and the first blueprint were all classics. yall know how it goes cats get too big they get to mainstream and really jay is garbage. plus why in the hell wants to listen to a 40 yr old man rapping? Nas drops an album every so often and that makes him more interesting to see what hes got to say in his s**t.
