Lifting with hernia?

Now obviously u wouldn't lift if you had a bad one but let me explain...

First off I box but haven't been in the gym since having my son. I been planning on going back sometime soon and when I do planned on putting on a little weight and lifting (didn't lift before because when I did I felt it slowed me down a little...plus not a huge need in boxing unless you want to gain weight as you already use majority of your muscles). Went to the hospital about 2 weeks ago and I have a small hernia. He told me its fine aslong as I don't aggravate it and I shouldn't lift anything heavy. So is there anyway I can lift without straining it like lifting light with more reps or am I screwed?

Are you going to leave it there or get it taken care of? I had a hernia during football season and played through it because I thought it was just a groin strain. After lifting tough and playing through a whole season I realized that my groin should not still be hurting. It ended up being a double hernia. Point is, you can lift but you are at risk until you get it taken care of.

Na in not getting anything done unless I strain it again and need to. That's why I'm wondering If I can try to actually successfully gain weight and not strain by lifting lighter weight with more reps/sets or anybody with helpful advice. Really want to lift when I go back and really don't want the hernia to reappear...that s**t hurts lol

I really don't think you should be trying to lift with a hernia. When your doctor says don't lift anything heavy I really don't think he was referring to weights ( unless you asked him specifically). If you did ask him and he said ok then do it. But eventually you are going to have to get it taken care of if you want to make any serious progress...

Its scrotal...and yea I been boxing about 10 years but when I go back this time I was more so going to do it to put on some weight and also get back in shape (plus I miss it..love the gym)...not trying to make a career out of it unless I find the time somehow

But these are the answers I expected...was going there was a way..this is some bulls**t

all i can tell you is i had a hernia for 3 years, didnt really know what it was untill i got it checked out and fixed, but i lifted heavy for those 3 years and it never made a difference on it. but i would strongly suggest getting the surgery done.

I worked out with a hernia for about 6 months mine was an inquinal hernia meaning it was just below my lower abdomen I didn't really have any pain with it while working out I was still able to do ab workouts and heavy lifting. I ended up gettng surgery after I got my health benefits and it was more painful after the surgery than before. Its a k!ller if you have good looking abs haha I started with a real good 4 pack and lost it all after the surgery. Anyways from my experience I had no issues working out on it but yours may be different....regardless you still need to get the surgery.

Doctor said I really don't need the surgery. Its not even really there right now and doesn't bother me. Basically the two times I aggravated it I had a lump behind my scrotum and couldn't really move for a few days and then it goes away. Doctor had to push way up and had to cough for him to feel it...
