A game without a winner> a game where one team won?

Seriously? That is your f**king argument? I understand that there is some strategy behind playing for a draw, but f**k seeing a game where neither team wins.

Only a f**king idiot would try to say a game without a winner is better then a game with one

i feel you and to be honest thats why hockey changed it...not really for the hockey fans but for fans they the were trying to attract. they needed to do things to make the game more exciting and expand their fan base so they did things like take out the 2 line pass and no more ties.

if the MLS stopped with ties i would understand that, but as for international football they dont really have a reason to change it because like you said football fans (and we all know there is a TON of em) are not complaining about it, its more so people trying to get into football

The MLS use to have a system in which if the game ended in a draw they would go to a penalty shootout similar to Hockey. I believe the players started at the 30 yard line and would go running at the goalie with the ball and would shoot a shot inside the box in order to score. I hope I explained it well, but nevertheless it was considered a joke internationally and domestically.

nfl playoff games cant end in a tie....i realize youre being sarcastic but its only the 1st round of the world cup that can end in a tie....the 2nd round is 16 team bracket that goes to an overtime period, then a shootout to determine a winner
yeah i know. i dont have a problem with the rules personally. the reason i posted that is because mcnabb said that after a press conference where we tied...and he wasnt being sarcastic

A game that draws >>>>>> game that wins.

Todays match was a classic example of USA playing tactically for a draw and getting it. So in USA eyes it was a positive result.

I have a question for you or other soccer fans, because I don't have THAT much knowledge of soccer. I'll admit I'll watch a few matches of International soccer and definitely watch the World Cup BUT I don't know every rule.

If England wins against Slovenia & Algeria they'll have 7 points
If the United States wins against Slovenia & Algeria they'll have 7 points

Who gets the 1C seed and who gets the 2C seed? I'm going to guess it's based on goals scored, and then goals allowed if there is a tie with goals scored BUT again I could be wrong.

Today's game was great to watch, I also watched a bit of Argentina v Nigeria and France v Uruguay.

yah youre right. Tiebreaks in the group stages come down to Goals scored and Goals against. I'm not sure if its differential or what but I'm sure once it gets closer to the knockout stage youll here more about it

thats roughly 7 billion total people......
I don't give a f**k how many people there are. My point was a majority of soccer fans are happy with games ending in a tie. It isn't about how well a team plays in a game. It's about how well they perform throughout the season or tournament.

Fulham this year made it to the UEFA Cup final by playing for a tie at away games and playing for a win at home games.

Yes would come down to who scored the most and who conceded the less. Which is why clean sheets are important. It both teams are level on goals for and against then it'll be a playoff between the two which is very rare.

In European Cup games away goals count as 2 or +1 goals.

Group play. The game was more hyped than it should have been because ESPN and ABC were trying drum up early interest in the World Cup. Anybody that knows this tournament knows that the round of 16 is when things really begin. Tied games are a very common thing in group play especially if the teams that tied feel they are the cream of the crop in their group. They essentially will be banking on wins and goals against the lesser two teams.

With that being said. Neither team played well. The US could never get the opportunities England had...but England could never finish those opportunities except for the Gerrad gaol
