I'm a dj/journalist, and often do research a.ssignments for magazines/websites...and whenever I do something that teaches me something - I feel like people would like some of the facts for respect, comparison, and/or trivia purposes.

In retrospect, I think my FACTUAL posts are much less pointless than the 100's of "Who do you think is better..." & "What's your top 5..." posts here on BX. Just my 2 cents tho.

damn I didn't even know bigge only sold 50 plus thousand off of ready to die first week..

Yea, back then internet piracy wasn't running rampant and labels put more effort in an album push campaign, and timed singles a little better (after the album released)...as you can see from this example, back then albums could start slow and then sales would pick up after buzz, and a new single dropped, so albums had a little more shelf-life & longevity. Plus, artists didn't rush and drop new project every year, so as a fan, when you knew you'd only get a new album every 3-4 years...we kinda supported the artists alot more by buying and going to shows. Nowadays unfortunately, we are force-fed 2-3 singles "before" an album drops, so there are then slim pickings in trying to find a 3rd/4th single to sustain more sales. Then, with all the label's effort focused on first-week performance - that's why we often see a 70% drop by the 2nd week.

Yea, kinda sad, lol, but BX is like that.
Honestly though, while I was born in NY, I pretty much like them both equally. They each had different strengths they were equally GREAT at (Pac with his emotion, delivery, aggression, poetic lyricism, etc) and (Biggie with his presence, flow, mainstream appeal, story-telling, etc). Both represented entire coasts, and had excellent career success from the gate. It's a shame we didn't get to see where they could have gone next. But at least IMO, trying to compare them (or determine who's better) is like comparing apples to oranges. They are both legends, no more needs to be said really.

since when do mainstream equal skill/quality of the song?

look at half those mainstream tracks, they were all for the b**ches. Pac's How do u want it single murdered the charts and that song sucked a.ss in my opinion. Hypnotize dominated the charts and i couldn't stand that s**t either. big poppa? nah.

pac was less mainstream then BIG was, he made a song here and there to get the necessary radio play, but BIG dedicated alot more time into that s**t with puffy's encouragement.

btw, only album there was throw away materical on pac s**t imo was all eyez on me, a few songs were trash. LAD had some annoying a.ss filler too

i jus peeped, pac has more billboard apperances and thats not even counting the makaveli album. pac also had 3 straight albums debuted as #1. pac did as good as BIG if not betta on the mainstream bulls**t.
