Mar 21 - House Passes Sweeping Health Care Reform

The most significant change to the health care system since Medicare more than 40 years ago will transform the way millions of Americans get health care. The 219-212 House vote means 30 million uninsured will get coverage.

I might get flack for this, but Obama is on his way on becoming one of the greatest presidents ever. Given the rampant ignorance in our country, this is a huge accomplishment. He's just made the far right "Obama is going to create death panels!" and the far left doubters look stupid.

Yes it is.....

Whether you buy insurance from the govt. or not, a 2.5% "tax" will be levied from your annual income:

H.R.4872

Reconciliation Act of 2010 (Reported in House)
SEC. 401. TAX ON INDIVIDUALS WITHOUT ACCEPTABLE HEALTH CARE COVERAGE.

(a) In General- Subchapter A of chapter 1 of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 is amended by adding at the end the following new part:

`PART VIII--HEALTH CARE RELATED TAXES

`subpart a. tax on individuals without acceptable health care coverage.

`Subpart A--Tax on Individuals Without Acceptable Health Care Coverage
`(a) Tax Imposed- In the case of any individual who does not meet the requirements of subsection (d) at any time during the taxable year, there is hereby imposed a tax equal to 2.5 percent of the excess of--

`(1) the taxpayer's modified adjusted gross income for the taxable year, over

`(2) the amount of gross income specified in section 6012(a)(1) with respect to the taxpayer.
`(2) ACCEPTABLE COVERAGE- For purposes of this section, the term `acceptable coverage' means any of the following:

`(A) QUALIFIED HEALTH BENEFITS PLAN COVERAGE- Coverage under a qualified health benefits plan (as defined in section 100(c) of the America's Affordable Health Choices Act of 2009).

`(B) GRANDFATHERED HEALTH INSURANCE COVERAGE; COVERAGE UNDER GRANDFATHERED EMPLOYMENT-BASED HEALTH PLAN- Coverage under a grandfathered health insurance coverage (as defined in subsection (a) of section 102 of the America's Affordable Health Choices Act of 2009) or under a current employment-based health plan (within the meaning of subsection (b) of such section).

`(C) MEDICARE- Coverage under part A of title XVIII of the Social Security Act.

`(D) MEDICAID- Coverage for medical a.ssistance under title XIX of the Social Security Act.

`(E) MEMBERS OF THE ARMED FORCES AND DEPENDENTS (INCLUDING TRICARE)- Coverage under chapter 55 of title 10, United States Code, including similar coverage furnished under section 1781 of title 38 of such Code.

`(F) VA- Coverage under the veteran's health care program under chapter 17 of title 38, United States Code, but only if the coverage for the individual involved is determined by the Secretary in coordination with the Health Choices Commissioner to be not less than the level specified by the Secretary of the Treasury, in coordination with the Secretary of Veteran's Affairs and the Health Choices Commissioner, based on the individual's priority for services as provided under section 1705(a) of such title.

`(G) OTHER COVERAGE- Such other health benefits coverage as the Secretary, in coordination with the Health Choices Commissioner, recognizes for purposes of this subsection.

so what if you don't want government healthcare? can you still choose to go through a private agency and forego paying the 2.5 tax?

This country will pay a huge price for this authoritative plan.

It's not enough we could've looked at other countries using socialized healthcare, remembered the Terri Schiavo incident, or looked at the s**tty healthcare for our soldiers......

Not to mention it won't kick in for 4 years, meaning the Dems/Reps will continue to not care seeing people get screwed over by health insurers, and take their lobbying $$$.

Making for more patrons (including illegal immigrants) to ignore the corruption, and run to this plan to give the government a strong monopoly to replace the already authoritative monopolies in power now.

The majority of Americans think that this bill f**king sucks.

And it really does.

I understand what Obama is TRYING to get at with it... but he's not going to with the bill in its current state. I appreciate that for once we have a president that has followed through with exactly what he said he was going to do... but this could end up being an epic failure for our country. And I don't think most Obama-fans understand.

That's correct....not just for individuals, but "penalties" levied against employers as well.

As long as you have an "acceptable" form of health insurance.

As the bill states, the government will of course, be the judge of what is "acceptable" coverage (and what isn't).

okay.. so if you pay for private healthcare instead of government healthcare will that put you at the top of the line when you go the doctor right?. people don't understand that since this will be for everyone, everyone will go to the doctor for absolutely anything and everything and will wait HOURS for service.
