true, I dont really mess with options much. More of a value investor. I think the market will continue to slip for a bit, then I'll buy in at cheap

I think in the long run, picking up shares of Citigroup (C) will pay off. Right now they're trading in the mid to high 3s and the last time they traded in that range was the early 1991. They traded in the 50's for 15 years prior to the market unrest in 2007. I think Citigroup is a long term hold that will reintroduce it's dividend in the next 12 months and once that happens it'll be on to the races.

2011 and 2012??

That's not a good idea IMO. That's how the people who write the contracts make their money.

If you're going to buy them..you should only look 6 months out tops IMO.

I already picked up some $9 AMD calls (AMDBB) at .14 cents this morning when they were down 12% :dancingcool::dancingcool:

I still haven't made my first option trade so I'm new at this. Bear with me.

Here's my logic: I only have long term projections for Citigroup at this point. I know the share price will at least double from where it is right now in the next 12-18 months. How do I capitalize on this in the option market? The only way (in my eyes) is to buy 2011-2012 calls.

I'm a.ssuming your saying the option writers make their money off of these long call because the premiums are high. Is that right?

It's bouncing off support right now. And it fell HARD. Plus it's very over sold. I'm expecting it to bounce back to the high $8 range if not low $9's.

If I'm right I'll make around 400% :dancingcool::dancingcool:

For one yes, the premiums are high. Also, on lower priced stocks like Citigroup, the change in the option prices aren't that much. Take a look at Feb's options. The only OTM call that gained are the $4 strikes. And they only gained .01 cent..which is very little. Even though their stock is up over 3% today...that's pretty bad if the option only gained .01 cent.

But, I took a look at the 2011 and 2012 options...surprisingly they have A LOT of volume. I'm not sure why...but it may not be such a bad move if you do buy them after seeing the volume and interest on them.

You could probably flip those for a lot if they do make a nice gain over the next 6 months or so. It's a gamble IMO though.

I hear you. Thanks for the eye-openers. I'll let you all know what I'm thinking about doing before I pull the trigger on anything until I get the hang of this option thing.

Options are probably not a good place to start, i would suggest starting with stocks.

What do you guys think about apple (AAPL)?

I got in about 6 months ago @ around 160 and currently around 201. Should I get rid of now or wait another 6months to a year?

Thanks

:agreement6: Very nice buy!

They fell below their $202 support today. I think they will keep falling until the low $190's now. If they don't bounce off that, they'll fall to $188 like they did in December. After that they'll definitely bounce back into the $200's.

I think you should hold it and sell them around $210 once it bounces back. It may bounce sooner than expected because the market is just s**tty the last couple of days.
