Why didnt James Cameron direct/write Terminator 3 & Salvation?

I recently rewatched all four Terminator movies and it's safe to say that Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgment Day were amazing movies whereas Terminator 3: Rise of The Machines and Terminator Salvation were just ok...i know that James Cameron is the one who made the series but i heard that he was only writer/director for the first two. Anyone know how come he didnt do the third and fourth?

Because he felt the story was finished with Terminator 2. Cameron was never going to do a 3rd film. He doesn't own the rights and isn't obligated to be, nor does he want to be, involved.

After Cinematic blowjob to moviegoers that was Terminator 2, Im sure James Cameron didnt see a need since their was no loose end.

Salvation was great. but the best damn characters in that movie wouldnt even be in the sequel (Marcus & Kyle). Why? Marcus presumably died to give the movie some cheesy cliche symbolism and Kyle is going back to 1984, We already saw that movie, so lets keep going forward. honestly its just gonna be a ever repeating cycle

Actually, what would of been great with the next 3 installments would to surround the plots around the heroes & villains from the first 3 movies. In T4 we saw Kyle Reese and the original T800. And I read about actually seeing who the T1000 was molded off of (a scientist).

The Terminator franchise still has a lot of food for thought to tie the future and past together.

I agree that T2 was and should of been a suitable end to the series. T3 was repetitive and uninspired while T4 just didn't feel right. But oh well its Hollywood. *shrugs*

T3 should have been what T4 was but had Cameron directed it the movie would have been much better

By cinematic blowjob, do you mean it was a gift? 'Cause that movie was great.

And there were plot holes. Hope this doesnt get too long but here it is:

Terminators came in part one, so terminators were always gonna exist, they left behind the chip and the arm which led to cyberdyne (?) creating the tech which would eventaully lead to terminators, but faster/sooner than originally, so, at the end of T2, by destroying arnold the arm and the chip all they did was restore the timeline back to normal, meaning terminators would exist just not as soon.

He was actually gonna do T3 but he sold the rights. He said if he could send back a note to himself it would say "Don't Sell"

I think this was around the time when he was gonna do Spiderman that he sold the rights. I think he was gonna do Spiderman then T3. After he found out the rights to Spiderman were going to Sony he just said f**k it and did Titanic as an excuse to go film the wreckage of the ship.
