i dunno about the greatest, but, Guy Ritchie hasn't disappointed me yet...

i love his style of movies...

but if i had to reach and say the greatest, i'd say Clint Eastwood...

he's never disappointed...

I give Nolan more credit though because he had 5 films this decade compared to PTA's 2.

Kubrick is one of our best (if not the best) ever to do it, but that's far to say that every film he's made has been awesome.
He has made some duds, Fear and Desire, k!llers Kiss, Spartacus, and Eyes Wide are all lesser quality but that means nothing when taking his whole career into account.

Uhh... M. Night has grossed over a billion dollars with his movies,
Titanic, LOTR etc. will always make this statement invalid. I don't care about these things so don't use them as an argument. Taking these two at their best I prefer Labyrinth over Sense, I like both movies and watch them casually though.

Its hard to have a proper discussion with you man haha. First of all, Sixth Sense is definately NOT M. Night's best movie, and second, Titanic and LOTR, despite what haters think or say, were epic, I personally dont like either of them but MILLIONS of people did, thats why they made so much money, so my argument is FAR from invalid, you're just getting way too subjective about this. What you personally dont care about has nothing to do with the topic at hand, nobody is trying to convince you of anything, you could say Kevin Smith is the best director and it wouldnt make it fact, so lets just stick to reasonable logic.
And come on, with statements like "I like both movies and watch them casually though" you're making very little sense if any.

Spike is a racist, he cant make good movies unless he drops his stupid ego, anybody who hates Jews as much as he does will never be considered top director in Hollywood. He can be quoted as sayin violence begets more violence yet he throws hissy fits when his movies full of violence dont get nominated for awards, he's just a hypocrit and more often then not its the stories that make his movies, not the direction.

Nope. Hack.

Only good film was Reservoir Dogs.

Pulp Fiction is forever tainted in my eyes because I saw the movie(s) he stole it from. And I made sure to watch every other movie he stole from too.

He said it best himself:

"I steal from every single movie ever made. I love itif my work has anything it's that I'm taking this from this and that from that and mixing them together. If people don't like that, then tough titty, don't go and see it, all right? I steal from everything."

-your boy Quentin

Fear and Desire and k!llers Kiss I can agree with you in that it's not as good. But Eyes Wide Shut? SPARTACUS?

I know a lot of people didn't appreciate EWS, and I might not have either if I didn't see it in a film class, but I'm sure if you read an analysis on it or two you'll be able to see it in a better light.

And Spartacus? Man...

I AM SPARTACUS!!! >>> the film industry
Spartacus is lesser quality Kubrick, you can tell it wasn't "his" film.

Pulp Fiction is a classic, I agree Tarantino is a hack but that movie was well done after that

I love how people are so adamantly against another's opinion. With that said...

Raimi is TRASH... I demand he be removed from the list as it serves as an insult to the rest of the contestants.

M Night Shamalacka has only made one good movie in his stupid worthless life... that of which I don't think he even penned. It was still dope though so... ya, ya it's about directors...whatevs....

Coens... grossly overrated.

Quent... far too hit or miss.

Mann... the man.

Clint... Mr. Consistent.

Nolan... on the come up... quick.

Of those listed... gonna have to go with Marti... yup.

Clint... Mr. Consistent.
Explanation? I don't see how Clint can be more consistent than the Coens or anywhere near that level, he is a good actor turned good director but nothing like the Coens have been for 20 years.

Truth, I don't want to argue M Knight vs anyone in a top director topic, not worth the time, Sixth Sense is his only good film period.

Agreed. Only films of theirs I didn't really f**k with were Blood Simple, Intolerable Cruelty, and maybe The Ladykillers.
I actually liked the style of Blood Simple, it took a second viewing, the other 2 were mediocre though.

Coens are vastly overrated. Out of their last 5 movies only 1 has been good.
