Free agent Rafael Soriano is considering accepting Atlanta's arbitration offer prior to Monday's deadline, according to his agent.
"It's going to go down to the wire," said agent Peter Greenberg. "It's definitely going to be a last-minute decision for us." That Greenberg is going public makes this a negotiating tactic. He's telling potential suitors to submit their best offers by Monday night. If there still aren't any attractive multiyear proposals on the table then, Soriano could take his chances in arbitration.

@ waiting for the Braves to sign Wagner and Saito then most likely accepting arb and possibly making 8MM thru arb. Soriano played you Braves fans. Braves definately won't have no money to add that much needed impact bat.

Geoff Baker of the Seattle Times has heard that free agent outfielder Jason Bay will "stand on his head" to play for the Mariners.
Bay is from British Columbia, the Canadian province just north of Seattle, and would like to get closer to home. The M's have already expressed interest despite his lacking defense, so talks have the potential to run smoothly. That said, the Red Sox still have interest in bringing him back and could probably outbid the Mariners if they truly want to retain the outfielder.

That would be a good look for Seattle. Boston really doesn't want this dude back

Yeah, trading for him would have Red Sox Nation heated.

If a trade did go down, I don't know who I would trade first. It would be weird facing the highly emotional/volatile Joba. He would hold a grudge that could come back to bite us. Unless you think Hughes is gonna be a dominant starter I say f**k it and trade him. I think Joba could be the future closer after Mo so I would actually keep him. Never been that big on Austin Jackson or Melancon so if they got packaged I wouldn't shed a tear.

I got a weird feeling that we are going to get him for some reason.
Exactly the reason as to why I don't think he'll be the future closer (he's got the talent to be, just not the right mental). He reminds me of Brad Lidge. While Lidge has crazy strikeout ability and was a key contributor on a WS team...he also can s**t the bed in the biggest moments. And when he does, it could have a lingering effect on him.

I think Hughes WILL be an excellent starter in this league, always have. With Burnett stating how much Roy helped his game both mentally and with his preparation techniques...I believe he could do the same for Philthy!

Nationals acquire Brian Bruney from Yankees

The Nationals acquired reliever Brian Bruney from the Yankees for a player to be named later, tweets Joel Sherman of the New York Post .z Bruney, who is arbitration-eligible, is due a small raise on this year's $1.25MM salary.z He's under team control through 2011.z

The hard-throwing righty, who turns 28 in February, posted a 3.92 ERA in 39 innings this year, striking out 36 but walking 23.z Plagued by elbow troubles, Bruney was bumped from the Yankees' set-up role for Phil Hughes in July.z He figures to be high in the pecking order of Washington's pen, perhaps even a closer candidate if Mike MacDougal is non-tendered.

UPDATE: ESPN's Peter Gammons quips via the Hot Stove that "The Rays have flatly denied their interest in discussing Wade Davis and B.J. Upton for Roy Halladay."

To be fair, FoxSports.com never said that the two clubs were discussing such a deal. Here is the direct quote from FoxSports.com: "The source suggested the Rays might be willing to offer star pitching prospect Wade Davis and outfielder B.J. Upton. (In that possibility, Toronto could flip Upton to a third team.)"
these halladay rumors just dont go away. but i hope this just raises the market for other teams.

Yankees/D'backs/Tigers blockbuster in the works?

The D'Backszpushed forza blockbuster three-way dealzwith the Yankees and Tigers today, only to see one of those two teams veto it, according to Jon Paul Morosi and Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports . However, the teams are discussing thezfollowing scenario.

The deal would send Curtis Granderson to the Yanks, along with a prospect or two from the D'Backs. Arizona would obtain Edwin Jackson from the Tigers and Ian Kennedy from the Yankees.zThe Tigers would obtain Max Scherzer from thezD'Backs andz Austin Jackson , Phil Coke and Michael Dunn from the Yanks.

Talks are apparently at an "impasse" now, though the D'Backs continue to push for a trade.
