Mets make a move................

According to Venezuelan reporter Francisco Blavia, the Mets have reached an agreement with right-hander Kelvim Escobar.

Blavia works for Lider en Deportes, a Spanish language news service that has been spot-on with a couple of other signings this winter. The Mets offered Escobar a minor league contract a few weeks ago, so the news is perfectly capable of being true. The 33-year-old right-hander has made just one major league appearance in the last two years but posted a 3.40 ERA over 30 appearances in 2007 and has a 4.15 ERA in 202 career starts.

Since the Ms have been putting in soo much work do you think we still might try an get Bay?

I know he lives in Seattle an his Wife is from here as well.........that would be a coup for us to get him for less than what the mets are looking to give him

Mark DeRosa is leaning towards accepting a two-year deal from the Giants, reports Buster Olney of ESPN.com.
Just yesterday it was rumored that the Giants offered DeRosa a two-year, $12 million contract, so perhaps the market for the veteran utility player wasn't as strong as once thought. Should he sign with San Francisco, DeRosa would step into a full-time gig, likely at third base, with Pablo Sandoval making the switch over to first base, where he'll be less of a liability in the long-term.
Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that the Yankees are "talking regularly" with the representatives for free agent outfielder Reed Johnson.
He's not an exciting name, but Johnson would be a creative solution for the bombers' outfield. Johnson, 33, can play all three outfield positions and has a .313/.378/.463 lifetime line against left-handed pitching. Limited to just 65 games last season due to a fractured left foot, Johnson batted .255/.330/.412 with four home runs and 22 RBI in 165 at-bats.
Reed has some pop when he's healthy and he crushes lefties. I smell a platoon with Gardner in LF right now.

Dye's a horrible defender tho. If they're going to no defense, they should just sign Vlad the impaler.

I wouldn't mind Reed, and that would be a fun platoon in left both offensively and defensively solid. But why select Hoffman with the #1 pick in the Rule 5 if we weren't going to platoon HIM?

Hoffman hit's lefties well, plays excellent D, and has some decent pop.

Totally forgot about him. Knowing the Yanks, they'll just return him back to his original team. Reed would just be a minor league non roster invitee at this point. Don't mind the Yankees starting the year with a platoon in LF and then possibly upgrade at the trade deadline for the stretch run.

Mets pursuing Holliday now?

During an appearance at the "21 Days of Clemente" benefit in New York last week, Mets general manager Omar Minaya said the Mets are pursuing free agent outfielder Matt Holliday.
"We are pursuing Matt Holliday," said Minaya, adding that "it seems to be easier to make a deal for Jason Bay." Because the negotiations for Bay have gone so swimmingly? Originally it was a.ssumed Bay's contract demands would be easier to swallow for the Metropolitans, but his silence -- whether it reflects his interest to play in New York or his hopes to find a five or six-year contract -- speaks volumes. With a contract for Bay in doubt, Scott Boras would love to see the Mets become a large factor in the negotiations for Holliday.

Yankees eyeing Jermaine Dye for LF vacancy?

According to Phil Rogers of the Chicago Tribune, free agent outfielder Jermaine Dye is drawing interest from the Yankees.
The club has previously denied interest in the veteran outfielder, but circumstances may have changed over the past month. Dye, who turns 36 in January, is coming off a down year in which he hit .190 with seven home runs after the All-Star break, so he could be a relatively inexpensive option to play left field. The Braves were reportedly considering Dye to play first base before they came to terms with Troy Glaus last week.
Could come real cheap, and the guy did hit like 30HR's every year for the Chi-Sox it seems.

SS-Jeter
DH-Johnson
1B-Texiera
3B-A-Rod
CF-Granderson
LF-Dye
C-Posada
2B-Cano
RF-Swisher

Legit 25HR+ HR power for the whole team maybe except Jeter. Feel bad for the opposition

Giants close to deal with Mark DeRosa

4:19pm: ESPN.com's Jayson Stark reports that DeRosa took a physical for the Giants earlier today. Still no word confirming that this is a done deal, but it looks very close.

Mets to announce Bay signing next week?

WFAN's Mike Francesa says the Mets will announce a Jason Bay signing early next week, if his physical checks out. Francesa's report also included previously-known info about Bengie Molina seeking three years and the Mets offering one plus a vesting option.

It's a strange way for news of a major agreement to break, though Francesa did not use the word "agreement." It's also strange that Francesa would sit on this news for a full day and make the announcement with no enthusiasm.
