Yankees acquired RHP Javier Vazquez and LHP Boone Logan from the Braves for OF Melky Cabrera, LHP Mike Dunn and RHP Arodys Vizcaino.
The Yankees are expected to take on all of Vazquez's $11.5 million contract for 2010. Of course, that's no sweat for the bombers. They've just landed themselves an excellent starting pitcher to bolster a pitching staff that already includes CC Sabathia, A.J. Burnett and Andy Pettitte. The 33-year-old Vazquez posted a 14-10 record and a 4.91 ERA in 32 starts for the Yankees back in 2004 and finished with a 15-10 record, 2.87 ERA and 1.03 WHIP for the Braves in '09.

Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News thinks the Yankees may target free agent Mark DeRosa to fill their vacancy in left field.
ESPN's Buster Olney had a similar idea last week, and that was before the Yanks got rid of Melky Cabrera. DeRosa, 34, hit .250/.319/.433 with 23 homers, 23 doubles and 78 RBI this past season. His ability to play third base would help Alex Rodriguez gain extra rest or find time at DH and he will come with a more reasonable price tag than Matt Holliday or Jason Bay.
According to MLB.com's Bill Ladson, free agent reliever Matt Capps intends to choose between offers from the Cubs and Nationals by Wednesday night.
The Nats can offer Capps a shot at closing duties and the Cubs can not, but Washington is far from contention in the NL East. We'll see what his priorities are. The 26-year-old had a disappointing 2009 season but boasts a 3.61 career ERA and has issued only 50 walks in 271 2/3 career innings.

Yankees got javy, who's a type a free agent and he'll prolly decline arbitration, and if he signs somewhere, yanks would get 2 draft picks :applause:

And mitre or gaudin will be traded to a team that'll need help in pitching.

I read somewhere that Bradley idolizes Griffey. He might have a better chance keeping him in control than pinella did.

National sign RP Matt Capps and Eddie Guardado to a minor league contract

Bruce Levine of ESPNChicago.com adds the details: Capps will earn a base salary of $3.5MM, with the chance to make another $425K in performance incentives for games finished. Pretty good value for the Nats, if you trust Capps to bounce back from a subpar 2009.

THURSDAY, 1:52pm: Chico Harlan of the Washington Post confirms the Nationals' agreement with Guardado, adding that it's a minor league contract. Guardado will receive a spring training invite with a chance to earn a spot on the roster, and he won't have to take a physical for now.
