Frankie Beverly and Maze

Appreciation.

I hated this band as a kid. My dad would play Maze, Gap Band and Isley Brothers all the time on our road trips. Gotten older and I really appreciate the sound of the late 60's to 80's soul, r&B and funk. This bands seems to be embraced a lot more underground in black households than in mainstream. I got the chance to see them live earlier this year and at this years Essence Festival.

FYI: Marvin Gaye brought this band to mainstream prominence in the early 70's. Frankie Beverly wanted to leave the group but since he's the leading man they ended up changing their name to Frankie Beverly and Maze.

Couldn't find "Before I Let Go".

Man I was listening to Michael Baisden yesterday and he made a good point, they had all those top hits and albums, and don't get the recognition. One of the best bands EVER, every hip hop and r&b artist was influenced by this band. People just don't know they are missing with them. It's ashamed they don't get more respect.

One of my favorites is "Golden Time Of Day"

I know, that's crazy to me. Mainstream doesn't appreciate them at all but they're one of the best live bands to ever do it.

Concerts are always packed, people know all the words.

how could you hate MAze!?!!!!!!!

I was born in New Orleans and they are living legends there. They always make appearance at Essence too. Sad that Frankie has throat cancer..

I listen to Golden Time Of Day and just zone out....I like Wish You Well as well as all the songs posted above.
Honestly I hated everything my dad played until I got around the age of 13. I'm kinda embarrassed by the music i loved as a kid looking back now. lol

and yea i'm from Baton Rouge, they always doing shows in Louisiana.
