Most college football fans are hoping the Ohio State vs. USC game will at least live up to the hype this year. What was thought to be one of the top games of the 2008 college football season turned out to be a one sided run away win for the Trojans.

Meet Pete Carroll, Head Coach USC.....

USC has been the most successful college football program since 2001. They have amassed a record of 88-15 under Pete Carroll’s leadership, a winning percentage of 85.4%. Carroll has been credited with returning the Trojans to prominence. Carroll’s success culminated with an AP National Championship in 2003 and a BCS National Championship in 2004. Carroll has been the master of landing the No. 1 recruiting class almost annually since 2004. The result has led to consistent domination of the Pac-10 conference and an annual challenger for the national championship.

Meet Jim Tressel, Head Coach Ohio State.....

OSU Coach Jim TresselDuring the same time period, Jim Tressel has quietly led the Buckeyes to an 83-19 record, a winning percentage of 81.4%. Tressel’s efforts culminated in a BCS National Championship in 2002. Tressel has only landed the No. 1 recruiting class once, in 2002, but that was not a consensus by all publications. Tressel has recruited the No. 1 player on three occasions starting with Ted Ginn Jr., 2003, Chris Wells, 2005, and Terrelle Pryor in 2007. Any college football fan that knows anything about the game realizes that these are two excellent coaches. So what will separate the two teams on September 12, 2009 in Ohio Stadium?

even though I am a OSU fan I will be fair and posting why both teams will have a chance to win this game,Here's reason why OSU will win

Five reasons the Ohio State Buckeyes will beat USC

The following are the five reasons that Ohio State will enjoy the spoils:

5) The OSU offensive line vs. the USC front-seven: Advantage OSU

The Buckeyes’ offensive line will be much improved this year. The line will rotate eight players that are faster and more mobile then what Ohio State has had the last three years. Look for Michael Brewster to be the anchor with some new attitude from Justin Boren, Jim Cordle and J.B. Shuggarts. The USC front seven will represent the least experience since Carroll arrived at USC. Ohio State will be able to run the ball with Dan Herron and Brandon Saine, which should allow Terrelle Pryor to settle into the game and not have to feel like he has to force big plays.

4) Terrelle Pryor and the Buckeye receivers vs. the USC secondary: Advantage OSU

This game will determine if Terrelle Pryor can make some noise in the Heisman race. If he’s to be a legitimate candidate, he will need to come up with a solid passing game to compliment his personal ground game and that of Herron and Saine. The nemesis Pryor will have to deal with from the USC defense is Taylor Mays. Mays will be the leader of the Trojan defense and may be the best defensive back in the country. Fellow teamates Shareece Wright, Kevin Thomas, and Josh Pinkard will look to slow down the Buckeye receivers. Look for the Buckeyes small, fast receivers Dane Sanzenbacher and Ray Small to get open in the seams, while Devier Posey and Taurian Washington look to get big plays on the outside by using their physical size. The Buckeyes had open looks in 2008, but could not capitalize due to penalties and poor offensive line play. That will not be the case in 2009.

3) USC quarterbacks vs. OSU secondary: Advantage Buckeyes

The Buckeyes will return a veteran group in the secondary. Even though we had to say goodbye to Buckeye great Malcom Jenkins and the talented Donald Washington, OSU will have good solid corners, perhaps faster than the 2008 version. Devon Torrence looks to have a leg up on fifth year senior Andre Amos for one of the cornerback positions while second year starter Chimdi Chekwa will man the other cornerback spot. The Buckeyes will also have three experienced safeties in the secondary. Junior Jermale Hines, senior Anderson Russell and senior Kurt Coleman will provide the over-the-top support for the cornerbacks in the passing game and also support the run against the tough USC ground game.

Carroll will be facing a level of uncertainty due to the introduction of a new starting quarterback into the USC offensive system. Aaron Corp looked to have a leg up on the position until a hairline fracture of the fibula forced him out for several weeks. Matt Barkley will now get the call as Pete Carroll announced today the true freshman will be the opening day starting quarterback. Barkley took advantage of his opportunities to unseat Corp from the top stop. However, the Buckeyes should enjoy an advantage, mainly driven by the inexperience.

2) OSU front-seven vs. USC offensive line: Advantage Buckeyes

For Buckeye fans, look no further than the OSU defensive front seven for the strength of this team. Games are won and lost in the trenches, and I believe it’s evident that both Ohio State lines, offensively and defensively will be improved. Due to the depth of the OSU defensive line, and the inconsistent tendencies of the USC offensive line, look for Thaddeus Gibson, Cameron Heyward, Doug Worthington, Nate Williams, Lawrence Willson, Dexter Larimore and company to win the battle of the trenches. Look for the Buckeyes to get a solid pass rush on Matt Barkley from the line and random blitz packages, something that didn’t happen in last year’s game when Mark Sanchez had all day to throw the football. The Trojans will counter the Buckeye defensive line pressure with senior offensive lineman Charles Brown, Jeff Byers, and Nick Howell.

The Buckeyes front seven will need to control the USC ground game. The USC running game may be the strength of the team. C.J. Gable, Stafon Johnson and Joe McKnight offer heartburn to the defenses that are a.ssigned to stop them each week. Gabel and Johnson are tough runners with McKnight being the shifty back that the Trojans will move around. The Trojan running backs will make plays. The Buckeyes just need to control them and keep them from the big play.

1) USC is not deserving of their high ranking in 2009

Trojan fan will not like hearing this, but USC will be in a transition year, much like the Buckeyes were in 2008. The Trojans are talented, and like Ohio State, the rebuilding process may end with 10 wins and a share of the PAC-10 conference. However, this inexperience will be too much to overcome in this game. Pete Carroll has been fortunate because he’s always seemed to have good success in transitioning players into his system on a yearly basis. He’s never had this much turnover to start the season. Look for the Trojans to lose three games in 2009.

Prediction for September 12, 2009

Ohio State 34 USC 23

USC's reasons for having a chance to win

USC vs Ohio State Odds maker breakdown: Offense
Barkley beat out Aaron Corp for the quarterback role, and he's the first true freshman to start the season as the No. 1 guy in USC history. But Barkley will have plenty of help as the Trojans return their entire offensive lineup and arguably the best group of running backs in the country in Stafon Johnson, Joe McKnight and C.J. Gable. Terrelle Pryor should have started the entire season as a freshman in 2008, and he played well in the second half against the Trojans last year. Dan Herron steps into the backfield spot vacated by “Beanie” Wells, and OSU’s top two receivers are gone. USC gets the edge because of its playmakers.

USC vs Ohio State Odds maker breakdown: Notable Injuries
Guard Justin Boren sprained his knee a couple of weeks ago and is doubtful for this game, while the Trojans are watching Korp closely, as he’s still recovering from a broken bone is his leg

USC vs Ohio State betting breakdown: Outlook and Pick
This will be a much closer game that last year’s 35-3 blowout in Los Angeles, as the Buckeyes have won 17 of their last 19 at “The ‘Shoe”. This will be the ninth night game played there since it opened in 1922, but the Buckeyes have lost their last two under the lights at Ohio Stadium. The Trojans lost a lot but, due to their outstanding recruiting, they’re deep and have a lot of playmakers, particularly on offense. Their running backs will be the key to controlling the clock, which will ultimately decide the game.

Ohio State Receivers are not going to do anything against the USC defense. I see USC taking it 30-17. Ohio State seems never to play well in big games. They have trouble adjusting to the speed of a faster team. I don't blame them for that because they play Iowo, Purdue and other Big Ten Teams every year. Can't ait to see Joe mcKnight shred that Ohio State defense!:dancingcool:

at you hyping him up just because Texas almost lost to him last year. He's not that good.

Don't really care who wins this game, neither team is as good as their pre-season ranking.
