Stop crying and jump out a f**kin window, dips**t.

Nobody is going to close this thread for you just because you don't agree with what people have to say. Just because we pick one over the other doesn't indicate hate. We all know how dope Eminem is/was. This thread is based on lyrical ability, and not success, productions, hooks.

Verse by verse, Lupe is more talented. Yea, Eminem says funny s**t and has multi's all around that make his flow sound near perfect, but Lupe has metaphors and similies that take 20+ listens to figure out. His hidden messages and the even more hidden messages behind the hidden messages, are things Eminem would never in his life could imagine ever existed. Of course, Lupe will not be put into that list of "top 5" just like tons of underground rappers who are lyrically better than people like Jay-Z, Nas, Biggie, etc.

Any rapper who references 'ghost in the shell' and paints a vivid picture of Post-Apocalyptic New York linking it with ghost in the shell to the point where you need to listen to it 20 times closely to figure it out is any f**kin day better than some dude who makes dumb jokes and raps about how he used to pop pills all day and how his life is s**tty because of that.

You're a brainwashed moron who thinks in black and white, and you probably don't know jacks**t about hiphop.

It's fine to say you like Eminem's music better, but you're either ignorant, in denial, or just don't know lupe the way people who actually listen to him do, if you think Eminem is in any way better than a neo-poetic Lupe verse.

And if you think race is a factor in this poll in any way, I'll let you know that I'm white.

And if you really want, I'd be more than glad to break it down verse by verse, line by line for you and show you how Lupe is lyrically far more superior than Eminem's one-dimensional verses. Pick EMinem's best verse ever, and I'll compare it with your run of the mill lupe verse and s**t all over your s**tty opinion

so ur saying lupe is better iyo just cuz u think he's better lyrically? and calling me ignorant or in denial cuz i said eminem is better than lupe is non sense...
Yes, based solely on lyricism. If you want to go the "whole package" route, then you can easily make a good argument for why Dre, Kanye, or Lil Wayne is better than Eminem.

Eminem and Lupe are both lyrically vicious on the mic. This is based solely on their verses. Yea, Eminem has better hooks just like 50 cent has better hooks than a lot of cats (even though Lupe can definitely put a good f!ght in that area). Eminem has access to some heavy-industry Dr. Dre beats just like 50 cent (although Lupe has spit on some of the sickest beats I ever heard. in MY opinion, better than many of dre's beats)

Yea, Eminem tore the game up with his first two CD's. He was and STILL IS funny, clever, and introspective in his rhymes. He has a great talent for setting the imagery to the point that you can even get the musty smell in one of his dungeons when he's raping the s**t out of some poor wh0ore.

Eminem gets his props. You're a complete tool if you think anyone on here who picked lupe over Eminem is hating on Em. If anything, we probably appreciate Eminem more than you do. You're just stuck on the surface thinking that anyone who did significant things in the mainstream rap industry is automatically the best. This is where you fail.

Anyways, f**k my reasons, let me prove this once and for all.

Is there any need for me to break down this verse? I know you're slightly retarded, so it might have taken you 10 listens to take in all the information on this verse. I'm a.ssuming what this verse is all about line by line. Very accessible and easy to understand on face value.

And this... my friend... is exactly what I'm talking about. This verse is fun to listen to, but it's highly one-dimensional. I give Em his props for s**tting on his haters, and all that blah blah blah, plus his ability to get all his thoughts out on paper the way he does.

Okay, cool.... Now let's get started with Lupe. I know you don't know jacks**t about Lupe except for maybe Kick Push, but let me be brief about what this guy is about:

lupe flows with verses that is a bizarre cross section of pop culture references, obtuse metaphors, street level narrative, and free a.ssociative word play. Alot of people argue that he isnt that good because you dont ever really know what hes talking about, i choose to think that he's more about images than messages, his bizarre invocations of streetsharks, super alligators, jabberwockys, cadavers on kitestrings and black helicopters seem like an extension of the surrealist style of painting. he uses dream like imagery to describe things that he cant describe any other way.

The best part is that once you dig deeper, you'll start to notice how each line actually has hidden meanings to it. You'll see what I'm talking about very shortly.

Anyways, I'm rambling. See post below.

This is the song right here that I picked. Not even an album cut. A mixtape track. Definitely a lupe classic. It's called 'the k!ller'

Unh! I bring you murder in the first
And even as we speak we gettin further in this verse
With no further adieu I do what I respect
Doom got me stripes like Hamburgler for my work
As: Lupe the k!lla, k!lla, k!lla, k!lla
Mercy, he's a mess! So immersed in his murk
He's two thirds submerged below the surface where they surf
This is where I lay it down like a bird givin birth
So call me Lu the giant's goose or just, Faberge paint
Til I'm called back to the shore by the watchers of the bay
I wait, til I come back like a tsunami
Never microwave like the watchers of the weight
I'm wrapped in aluminum foil, I do my dirt like Kwame
Until that same soil bein pushed into my grave
But I'm so ahead of my time, the next day
Might strike oil while I delay, homie I'm
But I can't fill it like a flathead in a Philips
Don't get it twisted, I'm no tool
More cool than a pool in a blizzard
With ice cubes in it during Christmas
Meanin there's no school, in the misfit
Like I'm throwin a fit
Or I just can't fit it, tidbit too big
It's gotta hem it til it's fresh to death
Dressed to k!ll it, like unh!

Unh! 187 on my second, I reckon
This is an a.ssault with a deadly session
A soft peace and blessins to the sentence that be reppin
All across in every direction, locality, and section
That know Lupe the k!lla, k!lla, k!lla, k!lla
Give it how I live it most won't believe
Or achieve how I did it most won't recieve
Til I leave and I bereave the secrets of my sickness
How I, flooded the streets like Venice
I've suffered, demanded, withstanded, pimp handed and hustlin
I'm Colonel Mustard with the speech
They ain't catchin me, no suspicions of stickin
No convictions on my rap sheet
I'm so committin lay my murder game, that's sweet
Speakeasy like Prohibition, no emission
If you ain't knockin like me to the underground bar, buryin a toast
Dodgin the raid like roach, please

Unh! I make it give up the ghost
On the trifecta, the third, I differ
, you ain't heard? My lecture like Lector
Letcha in on a secret, but you can't leak it
Lupe's the k!lla, k!lla, k!lla, k!lla
Since my entrance, my had packs
They moved 'em to a trap like Winston
Far from bustas, baby nah
All my homies henchmen
I was the rhymer, my talk went through the walls like Slimer
Or like, eatin v*gina
Or, a stray bullet, whichever ways I put it
Crooks was hooked like crooks through neighborhoods I pushed it
Little Caesar pizzas was like book it
Delivery mean like Leroy Green
They couldn't take it to the places I took it
Beware, you don't look it
You ain't dressed for this affair
I'm hooded in the bushes like unh!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Unh! I bring you murder in the first
And even as we speak we gettin further in this verse
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

murder in the first degree, murder in the first verse. he references this again at the beginning of the 2nd verse with the "187 on my second"

Quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mercy, he's a mess! So immersed in his murk
He's two thirds submerged below the surface where they surf

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

obviously talking about water. 2/3 of the earth is covered by water
murk=slang for murder

Quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is where I lay it down like a bird givin birth
So call me Lu the Giant's Goose or just, Faberge paint
Til I'm called back to the shore by the watchers of the Bay
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

besides the obvious bird wordplay (and extended water metaphor):
Lu= Sweet Lou= Lou Piniella
Goose= Goose Gossage
they were teammates on the New York Yankees. Goose was a pitcher
the Giants (baseball) also originated in New York. they moved to San Francisco. hence the line about the Bay.

Quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I wait, til I come back like a tsunami
Never microwave like the watchers of the weight
I'm wrapped in aluminum foil, I do my dirt like Kwame
Until that same soil bein pushed into my grave
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-obviously continuing the water wordplay.
-never microwave...Tsunami's are large waves, not micro, as in small.
-“never microwave like the watchers of the weight”…Weight Watchers make microwavable food plans.
-“I’m wrapped in aluminum foil”…you can't put aluminum foil in the microwave
-watchers of the weight= drug dealers
- "never microwave"= his doesn't get hot
- Kwame was Earth, the black dude on Captain Planet. meaning, he does his dirty work with his boys. When they came together, they were unstoppable (i'll get back to this)

Quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Until that same soil bein pushed into my grave
But I'm so ahead of my time, the next day
Might strike oil while I have layed, homie I'm so crude
Texas T, haters is so screwed
But I can't feel it like a flathead in a Philips
Don't get it twisted, I'm no tool
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-obviously referencing the "dirt" he does like Kwame.
-Texas Tea is slang for oil. also slang for sizzurp
-"screwed" starting the hardware wordplay. screwed also means to make a drink alcoholic. chopped and screwed music also originated in Houston, TX
-twisted as in the action you do to a screw. also means to get drunk

Quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
More cool than a pool in a blizzard
With ice cubes in it during Christmas
Meanin there's no school, i'm a misfit
Like I'm throwin a fit
Or I just can't fit it, tidbit too big
gotta hem it til it's fresh to death
Dressed to k!ll it, like unh
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-no school during Christmas. misfit as in a bad kid who doesn't go to school.
-throwing a fit like a temper tantrum. fit also as in outfit
-“or I just can't fit it” as in clothing
- tidbit too big, meaning it's barely too big. tidbits are also the things you put on a bit wrench (hardware wordplay again)
-he’s gotta hem his to fit. (i.e, dumb down his lyrics to cater to hip-hop heads)

Quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Unh! 187 on my second, I reckon
This is an a.ssault with a deadly session
A soft peace and blessins to the sentence that be reppin
All across in every direction, locality, and section
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-187= murder. muder in the second degree, murder in the 2nd verse.
-sentence as in the structure of speech. sentence as in a prison term
-He’s saying getting away with murder. He’s k!lling the track and nobody is even catching the .

Quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Give it how I live it most won't believe
Or achieve how I did it most won't recieve
Til I leave and I bereave the secrets of my sickness
How I, flooded the streets like Venice
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

aside from the ridiculous multisyllabic schemes in there, he's saying he won't get the respect he deserves until he's dead.
he's also referencing his boys who move weight on the side to help support him (how him and his boys “do dirt like Kwame”, which'll come up again in the 3rd verse)

i'm getting tired of explaining the real obvious ones, so if you don't get the Venice line, smack yourself.

Quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm Colonel Mustard with the speech
They ain't catchin me, no suspicions of stickin
No convictions on my rap sheet
I'm so committed, lay my murder game, that's sweet
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-people aren't catching all the slick he's saying in his lyrics (getting away with murder)
also using it as a metaphor to not getting caught by the law, hence the "no suspicions" or charges "stickin" or"convictions on his rap sheet" (referencing his slick lyrics again, as well as his clean legal record.) he's "commiting" murder right in front of everyone but nobody's catching him.

Quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Speakeasy like Prohibition, no admission
If you ain't knockin like me to the underground bar, buryin a toast
Dodgin the raid like roach, please

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-Speakeasy's were the illegal bars during prohibition. speakeasy also obviously meaning he spits like this easily
-you had to use a password or a special knock to get into most Speakeasy's
-most Speakeasy's were underground, hence underground bar
-underground bar-barian. Lupe is an underground MC and he's a savage with his bars.
-Speakeasy's got raided like drug spots do today. referencing his boys once again.

now, the 3rd verse is on a whole other level of wordplay.

-give up the ghost means to give up. He’s murdering/beating up the track into submission.
The third as in the 3rd verse. To hit a Trifecta when betting on horseracing means you got the first 3 places right. Meaning, he "got" (killed) all 3 verses.
Ghost. TRIFEcta. Ghostface and Trife Da God. (remember this “Ghost” reference for later)

his "lecture" (teaching with his lyrics) is like Hannibal Lector. in the movie Hannibal, he opens up dudes skull and exposes his brain. Lupe's opening dude's minds.

he's about to let y'all in on the secret of 1st and 15th

Quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lupe's the k!lla, k!lla, k!lla, k!lla
Since my entrance, my had packs
They moved 'em to a trap like Winston
Far from bustas, baby nah
All my homies henchmen
I was the rhymer, my talk went through the walls like Slimer
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-since the beginning his boys had packs...as in drug bundles. First and 15th was built on drug money (word to his boy/business partner getting busted with bricks of H and yay a couple months ago)
-trap as in the drug spot.
-"like Winston". Winston cigarrette packs.
-Winston Churchhill was said to have been in a "trap" when he joined the WW2 conflict.
-busta's....Ghostbusters. Winston was also one of the Ghostbusters. packs...the Ghostbusters always had those backpacks on.
"Far from bustas, baby nah
All my homies henchmen"
-his boys are far from lames (bustas). henchmen are villains.
"far from Bustas, my homies Henchmen...i was the Rhymer"
- Busta Rhymes. his bodyguard is Jimmy Henchmen.
his boys were never far away from him like Busta's bodyguard. (so don't with him)

"rhymer" completing the whole Busta Rhymes wordplay.
Lupe was the rhymer. he was the frontman of the whole drug operation. his boys did the dirty work behind the scene and used it to front his legal hip-hop operation.
"talk went through the walls" the cops were listening. Slimer (from Ghostbusters) could go through walls.
Eating v*gina...v*ginal walls.

Quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Or, a stray bullet, whichever ways I put it
Crooks was hooked like crux through neighborhoods I pushed it
Little Caesar n*ggas pizzas was like book it
Delivery mean like Leroy Green
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"crooks was hooked like crux"...they had fiends hooked like crux (a constellation that looks like a fishhook)
Little Caesar obviously referencing the pies they "delivered"
"delivery mean like Leroy Green"
Lupe's delivery in rhyming, and his boys delivery of the drugs...Leroy Green was an actor who played in the story of Bruce Lee's biopic "The Last Dragon"...mean "punch" delivery, like Lupe's punchlines....Leroy Green is also a hollywood writer...he's credited as a writer for what movie? Ghostbusters.
"Little Caesar n*ggas pizzas was like book it"
Book it as in police terms. (to put somebody on the books) rapper Lil Caese helped put Lil Kim "on the books" when he testified against her.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Essentially, throughout the whole song, he's talking about how slick he is with his rhymes and with the operation occuring behind him. Lupe the k!ller got away with murder...

So... yeah. compare that to an Eminem verse lyrics wise. Em has no shot at being this clever. It's fine to if you simply prefer to listen to Eminem over lupe. I listen to weezy when I need to as well. But, I listen to s**t like this and listen closely and rewind a whole lot while I'm listening to catch the lyrics.

I didn't give you this verse to break it down.... I have you his best verse since Infinite.. Cuz you might struggle with some Infinite verses, which are his best...
And lupe is in my top 10 favorites all time... so idk why you would say im slightly retarded cuz lupe is one of my favorites and I respect him alot and i think he's top 5 rapper right now in the game and way better than most cats... He doesn't rap about that money hoes ice gangsta s**t like nowdays...

So... yeah. compare that to an Eminem verse lyrics wise. Em has no shot at being this clever. It's fine to if you simply prefer to listen to Eminem over lupe. I listen to weezy when I need to as well. But, I listen to s**t like this and listen closely and rewind a whole lot while I'm listening to catch the lyrics.
Lupe more clever than Eminem?

LUPE BREAKDOWN
How is he not one of the best?

I dont see how anyone couldnt possibly say that, he has 2-3 metaphors going on at the same time on some of the same bars...its hard to even think of 1 metaphor i could write like that...Failure was sick yes, but this is also insane, i caught about a quarter of these, and thats after like 10 listens. This dude is not human.

....PERFECT BREAKDOWN BY THE WAY. THANKS A LOT FOR THAT....now if i could get that for every song....life would be gravy

YOu think Eminem's best verses are in infinite? LMFAO, f**k this. I'm not arguing with you anymore. Yea, that jack and jill line was tight, but Shady has come so far since infinite.

I know you didn't read my breakdown, but yes. Being clever doesn't have to include humor. Yes, EMinem is funny with his s**t. But, if you read the breakdown, you'll clearly see that Lupe comes up with more clever s**t. So clever that you might never understand it in your lifetime.

He's rhyming scheme on Infinite is one of the best ever...
Some of it is even better than what he did after Infinite...

And you're wrong for saying I didn't read ur breakdown... I read that s**t and I was impressed by Lupe and how he does that s**t... it's incredible... It takes time to come up with s**t like that.. I'll give you your props that was sick wut he did... but Eminem is not about hidding messages and s**t in his lyrics.... Eminem rhymes>>>>>>>insert any rapper...
And you saying lupe is better rapper than Eminem cuz of his messages in his lyrics is
Eminem is a better rapper... he's done more for the game.. he's got that legendary status... murdered everyone he collaborate with( including jayz)... everyone respects him... I don't think you listen to Rakim speak on Eminem... if Em was black, he'd be Mohammad Ali...
