Arrington or Ward?

While their four-year proposal with free-agent running back J.J. Arrington remains in limbo, the Broncos entertained Derrick Ward on Sunday.

Arrington is a third-down back/kickoff returner who would be a complement to newly signed running back Correll Buckhalter, who had played with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Ward is considered the top running back in the free- agent class after surpassing 1,000 yards last season as a backup to Brandon Jacobs with the New York Giants. He would become the Broncos' top running back, with Buckhalter sliding back to the same role he had in Philadelphia, where he backed up Brian Westbrook.

The Broncos are not expected to sign both Arrington, who thought he had a deal in principle Friday, and Ward. A decision is expected today.

No one here knows either. He is one tough guy, but not worth that. Now if he comes back to rookie year form then we got him for a steal. He told the media here he fell out of graces with Gruden and it caused him to see less passes. So I don't know. I know he did get a open a lot the year Galloway blew up, but never got thrown to.

Free agent T.J. Houshmandzadeh will sign a multi-year deal with the Seahawks, according to the National Football Post.
Seattle was offering at least $2M more than both the Vikings and Bengals. The 'Hawks were also desperate for a durable wideout. Housh was a flanker in Cincinnati and that's Deion Branch's position in Seattle. Branch could now be moved to the slot or cut, as it was rumored he might be in the winter.

C.C. BROWN TO GO SEE GIANTS
Posted by Mike Florio on March 2, 2009, 5:36 p.m. EST

Texans strong safety C.C. Brown will visit with the Giants on Tuesday, according to Alex Marves of FOXSports.com.

Brown was a sixth-round pick in 2005, and he started 13 games as a rookie. He continued to be a full-time starter until fracturing a forearm in the third game of the 2008 season.

The Giants currently have only three safeties on the roster — Kenny Phillips, Michael Johnson, and Steve Cargile. But the team’s online depth chart currently lists no one at strong safety

James Butler, a 14-game starter in 2008, is a free-agent. He recently visited the Browns. Backup Sammy Knight was cut last month.

Titans agreed to terms with WR Nate Washington on an undisclosed contract.

Tennessee has successfully upgraded its team speed over the last two offseasons and Washington, 25, fits the bill. The vertical threat is coming off a 40-catch, 631-yard campaign as Pittsburgh's No. 3 receiver. Washington is joining a run-first offense, however, and his stats may only improve slightly. He'll also have to win a starting job over LaVelle Hawkins, Paul Williams, Chris Davis and possibly incumbent Justin McCareins, a free agent.

Source: Tra Thomas Has Good Meeting With Jags

CSNPhilly.com

Amid the frenzy that was last weekend, there surprisingly was no news regarding Eagles free-agent left tackle Tra Thomas.

That has changed.

Sources have told CSN’s Derrick Gunn that Thomas had a very good meeting with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The 34-year-old Thomas has spent his entire 11-year career with the Eagles, who drafted him with the 11th overall pick in 1998.

Should he not return, the Eagles would have a major hole to fill. They’ve already signed Stacy Andrews, who is best suited to play right tackle. The Eagles would either move guards Shawn Andrews or Todd Herremans to left tackle or find one via free agency – where there is little remaining – or the draft.

Elsewhere, according to the Philadelphia Daily News, running back Brian Westbrook had minor arthroscopic surgery on his left knee and is expected to be ready for minicamp. Westbrook's knee bothered him for the majority of last season.

Agent Todd France told the newspaper the procedure was "basically just a cleanup."

On Loudmouths tonight in their Boom or Bust segment the two presented the question whether or not the Giants will make a trade to acquire a big time receiver. They both said Boom.

Carlin said that with the recent big time signings he feels they have a great setup and believe they made these signings to set themselves up for a big time trade. His prediction was that the Giants would trade Kiwanuka for Boldin.

Adam Schein said that he had a better name for a trade and that it was Holt. He said sources have told him that the Rams and very willing to move Holt and he is due only 5 mil next year. He said although Holt may be gettign a little older he still has a few very good years left and would catch 70 balls with Big Blue. He said he would cost a lot less than Boldin and with the Spags connection it would seem likely.

Interesting. However, they both believe that with these moves a trade for a WR will be made and if Plax comes back they will be that much more lethal.

Also they said if no trade was made the Giants are set up for a big draft. They feel the Giants will take one of the USC linebackers and take a WR in round two being either Nicks or Britt. If need be they feel they will trade their two second rounders to move up to get one of those two big receivers.
