Because you can see when a player doesn't hit from the field.
I mean, it is common sense. When the ball doesn't go in, it is a miss, right?

I literally watched probably 90% of all Bulls games from '88 to when Mike retired. He was my favorite player at the time aside from Magic. I saw a lot of games from before '88 but I wasn't old enough to remember, nor did I pay attention to the nuances of the game. I download a LOT of old Bulls & Lakers games and have a ton on VHS..

People can speculate all they want about sh*t that they pretend they're old enough to have seen, but I saw it with my own eyes.

Keep watching your youtube highlight videos and try to pull your knowledge from there.
U know what show me one other player in the NBA who couldnt shoot that shot 85% from the free throw line???

Usually players like Lebron, Wade shoot subpar from the line cuz they cant really shoot... Jordan on the other hand always shot very well from the line... Pretty good for someone who couldnt shoot... now i been pondering trying to think of someone else who also had a subpar jumpshot who shot well from the line... hmmmm could you help me... By the way even Kobe who struggled with his jumpshot early in his carrer also showed it from the line... Shooting below 80% in the year he shot more than 3 free throws a game... So im waiting

Youtube highlights??? Dude you sit up here and discredit jordan everytime a thread comes up with his name... You have good bball I.Q. and all kinds of proof on other bball threads but in everyone of your jordan threads your defense is about seeing and not proof... Its because you have none... I have watched Jordan more than anybody i know i grew up flew to games from houston to watch michael jordan play and attended every houston vs bulls game... he was my idol growing up and i know everything any fan would know about him... And trust i know i watched and observed his weaknesses and strengths more than you... Guaranteed... Pretend my a.ss... U aint talkin to me my n*gga

fact of the matter is
80's - 90's NBA-------->Todays Game
that era the game was more physical and more fundamental
you could pop someone in the mouth and not get a flagrant foul for it

LOL.. U can talk all you want. I don't know who to believe here anymore to be honest. Half the message board is apparently 30+ and watched the entire 80's and have vivid memories of it.
And as for the free throw shooting, I don't know.. I'd have to go way back because I've never really thought about that. I know that there are a lot of 3 point specialists that have been a.ss at the line but ELITE wing players are rarely bad at the line. The only one that comes to my mind was Clyde Drexler, but he was mostly a slasher too.
And MJ shot under 80% twice in his career, and once where he took almost 6fta per game.. Doesn't really mean he struggled with his perimeter game at that time (I think his last season with the Bulls).

EDIT: Also Isiah Thomas, Scottie Pippen (who had a nice jumpshot in his later days in Chicago).. And more recently; Vince Carter (who is a good jumpshooter but not necessarily an elite player anymore), T-Mac.

All of them have career averages under 85%.

So there may not be a good correlation between being a good shooter and being good at free throws.
