please explain
a) You're buy stuff that you've probably already seen / own on DVD. The labels have just convinced you to buy it all again with a few bells and whistles.

b) Disc format of any kind for films is a dying paradigm. It'll all be downloads in less than 3 years.

c) Blu Ray is still ridiculously over priced.

d) People seem happy to watch any old s**t as long as it looks nice on their HDTV

Buy the odd thing by all means. Classic films, TV sets or whatever, but this whole Blu Ray "Collection" thing just strikes me as a load of idiots buying into heavy duty marketing.

It's just a few extra pixels, but then a fool and his money are easily separated....

I would say Blu Ray, HDTV, HD-DVD, whatever s**ts on dvd.

Just looking at the resolutions on my cpu I clearly rather these than a standard MPEG-2 DVD. And older films do look a ton better, that is what Blu-ray is good for older movies before HD was the norm. I don't buy them though so I agree with the rest, also people shouldn't show off collections like anyone cares.

I agree with you, it does look a lot better than standard def on the right TV

But, have you seen some of the titles people are boasting of having in their "collections" in this thread?

These guys aren't fans of CINEMA, they're fans of TECHNOLOGY and Blu Ray discs are just another way to show off their gear......

um DVD/BR is going no where kid, digital download isn't going ever take over because the consumer is right, the mass wants it in their hands and you say a few extra pixels? have you f**king seen a bluray on 1080p on a 40+ inch GOOD tv that is properly calibrated? obviously not

if you honestly believe that digital downloads will take over within 3,4,5 or even 10 years you are f**king stupid, everyone will have to have high speed 5+mb/s connections, TBS and TBS and TBS of space on a HDD which the masses don't know s**t about, the masses also prefer DSL to broadband which is another problem, and also broadband isnt offered in a large part of the US

the masses = money
companies want money
companies release what the masses want thus giving them what they want
the masses = want products they can see, touch, feel, they dont want to have to buy all this extra equipment and pay for a internet just to beable to download a movie, what if the HDD fries? gotta get a new one, gotta redownload your hundreds/thousands of movies

look at itunes, CDS are outselling MP3s..

im sorry but you are f**king stupid if you honestly believe the digital download "fad" will takeover, its just another way to get your media nothing more.

But plenty DO buy Blu Ray discs for exactly that reason.....

Sadly, I've met a few. Dude at work watches s**t purely because it's in HD and looks great on his expensive new TV.

Which is entirely different to getting the best possible version of a film you genuinely love.

Blu ray is the s**t. How can you hate on crystal clear picture quality. Anybody who has a blu ray player knows what the deal is. The only people who don't like it are the people who ain't got it." bu bu buits a small difference" GTFOH.

Way to miss a point, he wasn't pointing towards a specific genre he was just commenting on the weak minded approach of buying s**tty movies on new technology because it is new and pricey. It is plausible looking at these collections.
