EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- New York Giants running back Brandon Jacobs had a precautionary MRI exam on his knee, although coach Tom Coughlin said he didn't think Jacobs had a serious injury.

New York Giants Baltimore Ravens

The Star Ledger of Newark, N.J., citing a source familiar with the results of the MRI exam, reported that Jacobs has no structural damage in his knee.

"Nothing serious," the source told the newspaper. "Just swollen and sore."

Jacobs gained 73 yards on 11 carries in the 30-10 victory over the Baltimore Ravens that raised New York's record to 9-1. He left the game in the second quarter and returned for just two carries in the third as Derrick Ward and Ahmad Bradshaw took over. They helped the Giants rush for 207 yards against a team that had been leading the league in rushing defense, allowing just 65 yards per game.

"There is a little swelling, he is walking really well," Coughlin said of Jacobs, fourth in the NFL with 879 yards rushing. "They are going to do all of the tests. But hopefully we can get this under control."

Asked which knee it was, Coughlin replied: "If you don't know which one it was, I'm not telling you."

NFC East blog

ESPN.com's Matt Mosley writes about all things NFC East in his division blog.

• Blog network: NFL Nation

Cornerback Aaron Ross, who had two interceptions, returning one for a touchdown, also underwent an MRI exam on his hamstring. Coughlin said Ross had aggravated an injury he had earlier in the year.

Both Jacobs and Ross said after the game that they could have returned to the game if needed.
he'll be ok..

Jacobs says he might not play Sunday

Brandon Jacobs said this morning that he feels like he could play this Sunday in Arizona if there was a “serious need,” but he added there’s a chance the Giants might hold him out.

Speaking on ESPN’s First Take a few moments ago, Jacobs did confirm the MRI on his left knee “was good” and that “There was no major damage.” But as I told you earlier this morning, there’s still some swelling that is causing concern. And just because the MRI shows nothing major doesn’t mean Jacobs isn’t hurt.

“I could line up and go play on Sunday if our team was in serious need of a running back,” Jacobs said. “But as everyone knows, they’re not. We have a stable of horses lined up and ready to go. So I could play if I wanted to and I needed to, but I don’t know if they’ll let me.”

The injury, from what I’m hearing, is very similar to what he did to his other knee on opening night of the 2007 season in Dallas. He sprained the MCL in his right knee that day and ended up missing the next three weeks. Nobody seems to think this injury is nearly that serious, but nobody seems ready to commit to him playing this week either.

***

UPDATE: Jacobs’ knee isn’t hampering his ability to bounce from media outlet to media outlet this morning (apparently he’s promoting some video game thing). Earlier today he appeared on The Opening Drive on Sirius NFL Radio and confirmed that the injury is similar to the sprained MCL he suffered against Dallas last year.

“I feel pretty good,” Jacobs said, when asked about the status of his knee. “I feel way better than I felt Sunday after the game. I did the same thing I did against Dallas last year, but it’s nowhere near as bad as it was then. I’ll be fine. It’s my call and we’ll be all right.”

Odd that he said “It’s my call” only to change his tune an hour later on ESPN when he said “I don’t know if (the Giants will) let me play.” Makes you wonder if someone got to him in the interim and told him it really wasn’t his call.

Oh well, we should still be able to put up 100+ on the ground with Ward and Bradshaw .... Card's receiving Core is nasty, as long as we get good pressure on Warner's immobile a.ss we should be ok

The cards run D is underrated...not saying we still shouldn't run the ball cause we proved we can run against basically anybody last week, but if there's a team in the NFC I'm scared of it's the Cardinals..they're clicking on all cylinders right now.

Don't let Jacobs play we're 9-1 not worth losing him for 1 game when Bradshaw can get 125 yards this game if he gets 18 carries

If we do that we'll lose, we need to control the clock as much as possible with the run game, keep the ball out of Warner's hands.. When he does get the ball, pressure him!! He's old he can't move, if we pressure him we got a good chance..
