Push Ups Daily?

im just wondering if its ok to do push ups daily, or do you need to take a day off like when you lift weights?

for example right now i lift every other day..but can i do push ups every day or is that too much?

also, pull ups- can they be done daily too?

I do about 130-250 pushups a day. Doing pushups daily is a great thing. The more it hurts, the better it is. I make sure I feel pain everyday in my arm when I do pushups. You get bigger that way. If I had a pullup bar in my home, I'd probably try and do pullups about 10-20 times a day until I gradually max until a 100 a day but since I don't have pullups in my house and since I don't feel like walking to the park, I just miss out on it. But one thing about pullups is that when you do a set, you might feel great pain. It would be good to follow up on your pain from pullups day after day until you don't feel it anymore and until you see results, but I'd probably skip a day or 2depending on the pain. Anyway, pushups is the best.

not unless you start doing some pushups off a chair and getting super sore after you do them. pullups the same, if you do a ton and you feel any pain, just stop there instead of going and possibly injuring yourself.

Hit them weights hard enough you will be too sore to do those pushups. But to answer your question doing pushups every day probably wouldnt do any damage to your gains.

It'll definitly get you ripped. It all depends on what your body can handle in regards to doing pushups the same day as you do your chest workout. at first i couldnt finish my workout when i did pushups through out the day, but i stuck it out and now i can do lots of pushups and go bench without a problem.

ya usually when i do a chest workout, i wait a few hours later and then do pushups so that little "time off" helps i think

Maan after either my chest or tricep day, I wouldn't be any good for any pushups. The most ripped dude I know never does pushups. I don't think they're 100% necessary because I've gotten some great gains without them (But I do enjoy pullups and dips)

They are unnecessary...I only do pushups for warm-ups before I bench. My strength gain from benching increased how many pushups I can do though. Cause before I couldn't even do 15 pushups, now 15 is the joke

I try to do push ups every day. Sometimes its hard though cuz a 500 lb door fell on my wrist about a year a back and the pain comes and goes. I try to push through it though. Push ups are good for developing your traps and chest

some of you ought to get the fu*k out of bx gym and get ur a.sses into the relationship section...

you can curl a soup can 200 times and feel pain..that doesn't mean ur making any gains.

you don't get "ripped" from pushups. pushups doesnt provide enough resistance to build fast twitch muscle fibers (fibers that have the most growth potential) and it doesn't burn off enough calories to shred anybody to give u the "ripped" look. if you're looking for growth, doing 100 pushups is a waste of time..you'd be better off spending your money on a gym pass for a month and hit the bench. the only real advantage of doing high rep pushups is that it will probably build muscle endurance. save em for after a chest workout..do 10 second negatives until failure..that sh*t is crazy.

as for pullups, yeah pull ups are good. but the real growth occurs when you're able to hang weights off of you. if you're able to do 10 reps no problems, grab a dip belt and hang 25 lbs off of it and push for 10 more. keep adding weight until you find yourself reaching failure by the 10th rep.

to answer the threadstarters question, yeah i would say its okay to do push ups daily. im not entirely sure why you would want to because it might hinder your tricep, chest, and shoulder workouts and you DO want to give your body and nervous system some time to rest (especially if you're on a weight lifting routine). i say just chill out on rest days or do cardio. at least cardio will burn calories..

Only time I do pushups are for clap pushups to build explosiveness.

But if you're doing 100+, you should really rest the next day and do something else.

you do a pushup....and when you're up, go down real slow where it takes 10 seconds to reach the ground again, and then go back up

what's harder is weights on you while doing that.

personally, i think pushups daily are a waste of time. the only time i ever do pushups is when i warm up before a set on bench. i see too many people talk about "i do 200 pushups, 200 situps, everynight"....sorry but you will not get big doing plain pushups and pullups
