Cut then Bulk, or Bulk then Cut?

This is my first post in this area, although i have been reading a lot of your mostly well educated comments for a long time.

I am 6'1 and weigh about 13.5 stone, quiet a skinny guy with a little belly. From the comments i have read over time, i beleive it would be best to cut then bulk, rather than the other way round but would just like some clarification.

My goal is to get bigger arms, chest etc but sort out my abs and get ripped, sods law you cant do both at the same time!

Your comments are highly appreciated.

1. I dont know what 13.5 stone equates to
2. If you are new to lifting you could possibly go on a lean bulk, put on some size and lose some of the belly fat. The thing is you will have to have a great diet.
Everyones body is different so you will have to experiment with different methods to see what works for you. If you are putting on too much more fat during the bulk you could always cut down later. Put I see no point in cutting now if you dont have too much muscle to begin with.

cutting means lowering your bodyfat to see your muscle...if you have never lifted weights and barely have any muscle to show, you're wasting your time. since you're a beginner, you could lose fat and gain muscle at the same time the first few months of lifting. so start a "bulk" but don't overdo it. bulking does not mean get fat...you gotta watch that sh*t cause trust me you will regret it if you don't just like i did

start out eating 3 meals a day of lean protein and doing cardio and ab workouts a lot on top of your lifting

Then when your cut up, start eating 5 meals a day and lifting way harder and doing less cardio

you cant gain mass without gaining some fat. You will gain weight and then to get ripped go on a cutting stage. So basically weight gainers and protein with maybe a creatine supplement. THen after you have reached your desired build or a bit bigger...get on a running routine and drop the weight gainers and creatine. You will lose some size but still retain the muscle mass.

Why would you diet and cut weight just to turn around and put it back on by bulking?

Just eat right and work out and quit worrying about bulking and cutting. That's for bodybuilders and athletes. I think most the people talking about bulking and cutting aren't to the point where they need to worry about it, don't fully understand the concepts and aren't at that point physically.

Thanks for all the comments, it has helped a lot. A lot of mixed opinions.

I think Jesse James sums it up, just have a good diet, work out and not worry too much about the bulking/cutting until i feel i am at that stage. I currently eat plenty of protien, meals between 3-5 times a day depending on my day. I am at a point now where putting on weight is easy.

I currently lift 3 times a week and run 3 times a week, so if i maintain that with a good diet i should be good to go.

Oh and for you Americans, my weight is about 185 in lbs? (I am 6'1)

Thanks again
