Anyway i will end this segment of the argument right now becaues it's got to an argument that i can't win.

My point was. Its far harder to reach the level of your average guitarists than it is your average rapper. On AVERAGE.

To reach the top end of either i'd say is equally difficult.

And it's the same with most people. The only people super impressed by over rated lyricism that most rappers show are illiterate. I really believe it to be that simple.

Come on Jewelz1132... after all r a n c i d's ranting and raving, do you think he REALLY means HIP HOP shouldn't be at Glasto? or something else... affiliated with hip hop?

I cannot believe how fu*king childish you are.

I cannot point out that people impressed by most rappers are illiterate without it being racist?

It's a nice attempt at a cop out though.

But it doesn't change the fact most people who do listen to your typical rappers are in fact illiterate. I think the responses by most in this thread are proof enough.

So? What would that prove? You think that's relevant?

If he cited Soulja Boy would it mean anything?

I can't see how it's relevant though.

it means that your favorite rapper cites Jay as his favorite rapper if Jay didnt exist dude might not eve be a rapper...Trickle down effect. To say Jay has no content is ignorant. Everything has content, maybe his content doesnt appeal to you, thats fine, but to discredit what Jay has contributed to hip hop is madness..

I do not discredit what he has done for hip hop. I discredit him as an artist.

And of course everything has content. It wasn't literal. But his content is sh*t is my point.

He does not rap about anything worth listening to. He raps about the same thing every other rapper does. He just happens to rap about it with more talent than the other commercial artist.

ITs pretty clear you dont listen to Jay-z or just have a blind hatred of him, which is fine.... but dont spit your opinion at people like it is fact or call them illiterate if they disagree with you, that just makes you sound bitter..... if lyrics like these... listed below, make me illiterate in your view..
then so be it....

[Verse Three] Beach Chair
Life is but a dream can't mimic my life
I'm the thinnest cut slice
Intercut, the winner's cup
With winters rough enough
TO interrupt life
That's why I'm both
The saint & the sinner
Nice
This is Jay everyday
No compromise
No compass comes with this life
Just eyes
So to map it out
You must look inside
Sure books can guid you
But your heart defines you
Chica
You corason is what brought us home
In great shape like Heidi Klum
Maricon, I am on
Permanent Vaca
Life is but a beach chair
This song is like a Hallmark card
Until you read each here
So till she's here
And she declaired
The aire
I will be prepared
A blueprint for you to print
A map so you can back
A guide for your eyes
And so you won't lose scent
I'll make a stink for you to think
I ink these verses full of prose
So you won't get connect out of 2 cent
My last will and testament I leave my heir
My share of Roc-AFella Records and a shiny new beach chair

he does it the best and 99% of new rappers try to emulate him so he doesn't sound like everybody else, everybody else sounds like him. yes there is a difference.

u say he doesn't rap about anything worth listening to. what do you consider worth listening to?

You know. Canibus, Vinnie Paz, Jehst, Lowkey etc Real lyricists.

You have good taste in lyricists ...but if you believe you would take these guys and put them in Jay's place i would say

1. totally throw away your whole idea that hip hop doesnt belong at Glaston

2. With some of these songs im pretty sure they would have the whole place sleeping...and im basing this off their delivery....i been to concerts where if you broke down their verses they would say some amazing sh*t...but by the way you say it ...it could mean nothing. Jay has substance whether you believe so or not. And he has different ways for you to actually comprehend it on stage whether he is doing it acapella or on double time.

3. There is a different magnitude from a great lyricist and a so called "average" lyricist like Jay.....they key point in headling is being able to draw people as the main eventer ...you know wrestling and boxing as well...at the end of the day its about $$$$ and who is the main figure with the stature to draw the hundred and thousands of people...and Jay brings that and he brought a magnificent performance whether you agree or not. Canibus...maybe but in America he hasnt been relevant to the point where you can give him a club show and he'll sell it out

This thread isn't about liking Jay or not. Jay k!lled the performance and the crowd is the proof, point, blank, period.

I don't even know what y'all are debating about

commercial rap..scratch that commercial MUSIC is a product of capitalism...underground artists have not lost the ART aspect of music, like MOST Mainstream have...Jay, Nas Common..ect ect...are talented individuals that are expressing what they have lived or living...which is why some of ya'll posters cant relate..Music is an art that varies from culture to culture..while it is embarassing to post in this thread, some people need to think outside the box..its not JAY vs Oasis, the problem likes with our own individual ignorance.....

PS why shouldn't hip hop be at glastonbury...last i recalled it was a performing arts festival
