How many watts can an Alpine Type-R really handle?

Question in title. I've got the dual voice coil 4 ohm version. I see alot of people talking about 1000 watts but the RMS for each sub says 500 watts. So what's the deal?

it all depends on how well the gains are set and what amp your using to power them

with the right amp and correct settings a type r can take 1000w rms no problems, but if you don't really know what your doing i wouldn't suggest anymore than 500-700w rms

12 inch, if I used a voltmeter and such to set gains I'm a.ssuming I'd be ok. Also, I heard the type of box and size of it makes a difference as far as not blowing it.

Some bandpass applications may be hard to tune by ear,but if your going sealed you should be able to hear the distortion and turn the gain back some.

box has a lot to do with it also. the bigger the box, the less power it needs, for th most part. if you have a huge a.ss ported box made then chances are if you put 1000w rms to a type r it'll blow

ehh... i would feel comfortable sending 1000-1200 to any customers daily without any problems... if it was mine it would get more in the 1600-1800 range, if it was a 15 it would be getting more like 2200-2300
