I agree with Jemele and I've been saying this for YEARS!! I am black and I think as a whole we are foolish. It's like we never take advantage of an opportunity and we don't think to be pioneers until someone does it first and then we are all followers. In this instance, I'm ok with the following if it happens but I doubt it will. Black people dont really care about other black people. We only care about our immediate families making it out. Could care less about anything else. Black athletes and entertainers move the culture forward. Look what LBJ did to the NBA. It coulda been happening but it didn't until him and it's great for ALL the players. Think about if he woulda went to Morehouse out of high school...someone gotta do it to try to even the playing field. I also think about how long the dollar stays in each community and it lets me know how fu*ked we actually are but it can change! The last thing I want to say is look how we protest when an unarmed black person gets murdered by the police. How long do we protest and riot in our own communities? Maybe a week right? Tell me this, how long has the French protest been going on? 9 MONTHS!!! What about Hong Kong protest? 5 MONTHS AND THEY'RE STILL GOING!! these folk started protesting laws and things that affect them IMMEDIATELY. We BEEN getting gunned down for years and still, we only will do it for a week or 2 max! It's sad that we don't value our lives as much as they value laws. Think about it
Even if they did go to these colleges they are not going to let anyone thrive without their control. Wether it's TV contracts or whatever earns revenue. Look what happens to anyone trying to break free and build their own. They will take you down hard from death Row to MJ.

I see where she's coming from. They're going to go at Jamelle either way though, simply because she's a black woman. Especially BX lol
It's certain people on BX.

The whites, who hate blacks but can't live without the culture and the asians (east and south) who are much the same.

Then you have the c00ns. We can't save everybody.

Build with who you can, ignore the rest.

I wanted to go to a HBCU before signing to a div 1 school (for basketball). To be honest, HBCU facilities are sh*tty compared to div 1 schools. The one HBCU school I took a recruiting visit to was avg at best. The weight room was smaller than my high school and it was on the side of the bball court. HBCU need to have better facilities to appeal to more top athletes.

Could have been a ton of factors...you was with her opening up her college acceptance and award letters?
Nope. You gonna sit here and say that if she had applied at HBCU's across the country, and if MSU accepted her and offered her scholarships, she wouldn't have gotten the same sh*t from HBCU's?

She's telling these kids what they should be doing while she hasn't done the sh*t herself. If she went to Spelman, Clark Atlanta, etc who's to say she wouldn't have gotten the same opportunities in journalism as she did from MSU? We don't know because she didn't take the same risk she's asking these young brothers to take. That's bullsh*t.

do hbcu athletes get the same pro opportunities as div 1 , NO
do hbcu get the same job offers as div 1 NO
I went to a job interview at a fortune 500 and they ask me about balling at my division 1 and offered me the job (nothing about my experience)...If I had went to a hbcu, they wouldn't have looked at my resume without a lot of experience.

Despite constituting only 3 percent of four-year colleges in the country, HBCUs have produced 80 percent of the black judges, 50 percent of the black lawyers, 50 percent of the black doctors, 40 percent of the black engineers, 40 percent of the black members of Congress, and 13 percent of the black CEOs in America today.
Those are some crazy numbers

If the black athletes go to hbcus the facilities get better obviously, they will win ships every year and compete with the majority white colleges easy. Better athletes equals better programs and a lot more money coming in to help the school.

I agree, buttttt.....America, in general, has exploited and abused blacks 100x more than any college. Why isn't she advocating for African "americans" to leave this white country? She's wants to redecorate a room in a slaughter house? Sounds like a fool's plan, imo. Why are all these idiots advocating for trying to build behind enemy lines? U really deserve all the misfortune headed your way if you're that ignorant.

I wondered what made things change from all for one and one for all from civil rights ,from black power movements when we were willing to sacrifice for each other were not gangs formed to f*ght against racist. I seen a video of black women going to a nail salon and a black man through a brick threw a window and got arrested all that had to happen was for the racism to top it bw stopped going to the naio salon I don't understand this mentality every race is about building and moving everyone forward but us we just want an excuse to harm each other.but it was not always like this I wondered what happened

This is what is lost in this discussion. Unless HBCUs break away from the NCAA and start up something different that allow for the folk who are ultimately exploited to be treated properly, this is sh*t is dumb.

The argument falls apart as soon as she mentions the endowment of the schools. That's why there's such a big difference between the schools. A larger alumni base is going to lead to larger endowments, which lead to all the amenities that these big schools have. If you're an HBCU, you're f*ghting for an already small share of a population. The only way something like this to be sustainable is if white folk start going to HBCUs in larger numbers.... which would make them PWIs

I was a division 1 athlete that later transferred to an HBCU and received job opportunities due to my experiences in both. HBCU athletes are getting looks by pro teams all the time. Two WRs from AZ and the starting RB from the Bears prove that point. If you're good at what you do, you'll get noticed. She's being a hypocrite.

As posted above:

Like I said when your'e good, you're good. She can't tell people to make a sacrifice that she wasn't willing to make herself.

Make it to the league granted you’re a top prospect, but it’s virtually impossible to make it to the league from a hbcu in football
