Nov 10 - Khizr Khan: Trump family 'has no idea what service and sacrifice is'

Khizr Khan, the father of a Muslim American soldier who was k*lled in the Iraq War in 2004, hit back at comments made by Donald Trump Jr. in his new book, saying the Trump family has "no idea what service and sacrifice is."

In his new book, “Triggered: How the Left Thrives on Hate and Wants to Silence Us,” Trump Jr. wrote about a trip he and his family made to the Arlington National Cemetery before his father’s inauguration in 2017.

During the trip, then-President-elect Trump paid respects to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. While an Army Band bugler played “Taps” in front of the tomb during the visit, Trump Jr. wrote that he reflected on some of the sacrifices his family made so that his father could become president.

“In that moment, I also thought of all the attacks we’d already suffered as a family, and about all the sacrifices we’d have to make to help my father succeed — voluntarily giving up a huge chunk of our business and all international deals to avoid the appearance that we were ‘profiting off the office,’” Trump Jr. wrote.

In an interview with MSNBC's Kendis Gibson on Sunday, Khan, whose son Capt. Humayun Khan was buried at the cemetery in Arlington, is pressed for his thoughts on the comments Trump Jr. made in his new book.

In response, Khan, who rose to prominence after an impassioned speech he gave blasting then-presidential candidate Trump at the 2016 Democratic National Convention, said: “I say only one thing, that it’s all about business with Donald Trump and his family.”

“They have no idea what service and sacrifice is when his turn, meaning Donald trump’s turn, came to serve , he ran away,” Khan continued, adding that Trump’s family has “no idea what it takes to be” honorable.

“What does it say to you when somebody says that they’ve visited and seen those graves there at Arlington and then talks about their business sacrifice?” Gibson asked Khan. “Especially for you, who has a son that’s buried there?”

“It’s disgusting,” Khan continued. “It’s shameful, but we don’t expect any better from Donald Trump or Donald Trump Jr. because they have sacrificed nothing. They have gained from all of this, holding the office, the highest office that they have corrupted and history is being written.

“And I say this to those who stand beside, stand as [an] enabler of Donald Trump, that history is being written,” Khan continued, while also adding: “You could be on the side of this demagogue in the White House or on the side of [the]

He turned his sons grave into a podium to vomit out anti-Trump hatred over a book. Can't say there is anything honorable about that.

What about all the soldiers who died in Syria and Afghanistan for no objective reason or purpose other than to perpetuatually occupy those countries? Why the hell didn't Bush (draft dodger) or Obama (never served either) get any blame for initiating or continuing the infinity wars in the Middle East? Instead he's selectively outraged over a book quote from someone who isn't even in office.

Whataboutism

Trump JR. literally tried to put “looking at the graves at Arlington while the soldier played Taps” and “I thought about my family’s sacrifice to our business” (which is an outright lie) in the same paragraph. He is simply calling them out. His son is buried in Arlington, I think he earned the right to call out someone who believes their campaign=a soldier giving their life for the American govt.

As a veteran, go fu*k yourself.

How do you know what the hell was going through his head at a funeral? This guy's son being around the same funeral grounds doesn't give him any claim over the mental state of other people attending another funeral. You people sound unhinged to the point of mental retardation.

As an American who also has veteran fam in the ground, go fu*k yourself.

DT jr. said his thoughts in his book.

You put your thoughts out there to the public (for profit), you open them up to criticism.

I don't understand the need to defend trump and his family from every single piece of criticism.

And if you put yourself on TV to be used as propaganda to shame another private citizen for daring to mention a thought while at the same funeral grounds as your dead son, you deserve to be called out for dishonorable behavior.

I'm not defending either of these guys. They can talk all the sh*t to each other they want. That is why I have not weighed in on the merit of what they are saying.

You added whataboutism in you first post in this thread.

Of course you marginalize the significance of Bush and Obama's culpability here for creating and continuing the wars.

It does highlight the incredible false equivalency here, that a private citizen deserves public condemnation for daring to mention a funeral, while Bush (directly responsible for sending his son to his death based on lies), does not. And then there's MSNBC - guess they don't deserve a lip for firing Phil Donaque (despite a top-rated show) so their entire lineup would be pro-Iraq war?

He disrespected his own dead child to make cheap shots at another man's son. You call that honorable?
