Feb 11 - Fox News: Trump could go down in Jeff Bezos blackmail case

Fox News senior judicial analyst Andrew Napolitano on Monday warned that an alleged extortion plot against Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos “could be bad news” for President Donald Trump.

Napolitano made the remarks about Trump’s connection to AMI, The National Enquirer‘s parent company, during an interview on Fox Business.

“Here’s the essence of what Jeff Bezos claims,” he explained. “He was admonished by AMI’s people: ‘If you continue your investigation — wherever it goes — we will publish more photos of you.'”

“Now that is an act of blackmail,” Napolitano insisted. “Because it is an effort to prevent him from doing what he has a right to do by the threat of exposing something.”

According to Napolitano, there is suspicion that the White House was involved in the alleged crime.

“Because of the close relationship between [AMI CEO] David Pecker and Donald Trump,” he remarked. “I’ve seen no evidence of this. But that is the implication in the media, that if Jeff Bezos continues with his investigation, that’s where it will lead.”

Napolitano argued that AMI’s threat “clearly was blackmail.”

“This is very troublesome for AMI because they signed an agreement with AMI in the Michael Cohen case,” the former judge continued. “They must be as pure as Cesar’s wife for the next three years. Otherwise, the agreement not to prosecute them is no longer in place.”

“If they are prosecuted for being part of the Michael Cohen conspiracy, [that’s] bad news for the president.”

I doubt trump will get caught, but it actually makes a lot of sense. Trump hates Bezos and the Washington Post and trump is best friends with David Pecker (the guy who runs the National Enquirer). Pecker has done a lot of bidding for trump in the past, it shouldn't surprise anyone if trump is connected to this smear campaign. Jeff Bezos has the money to bury just about anyone.

I know trump is a*sociated with them but why is he trying to black mail the richest man in the world? How would he benefit from it? I'm sure The national enquirer does sh*t like this all the time its basically part of there business model, why would trump be involved this time?

The brother of Bezos' mistress, Michael Sanchez, is a trump supporter who knows Roger Stone and Carter Page. And apparently this happened...

Documents reviewed by the Daily Beast show that Michael Sanchez believed the Enquirer pursued its story about Bezos with “President Trump’s knowledge and appreciation” — a chase encouraged, in Sanchez’s estimation, by Republican operatives “who THINK Jeff gets up every morning and has a [Washington Post] meeting to plot its next diabolical attack on President Trump.”

Trump been hating on bezos for years. Reports are saying Trump has been obsessed with him since his rise to billionaire status. Plus on top, he's been calling for Amazon to break up and the government stepping in to stop them, also hates that Washington Post won't let the case go away with the reporters death by Saudi.

Bezos said Ami has been backing Saudi lately and this is all about Ami getting Washington Post to back off the investigation. Trump is linked to this case by dismissing it and acting like it didn't happen. So under this, I'd say this is Trump's way of trying to make the investigation go away without himself doing so in the public eye so he won't be investigated for collusion with Saudi, just to bad he went after Bezos who said fu*k it and exposed himself

this Bloomberg article explains it in more detail...

(Bloomberg) -- The lawyer for the chairman of the National Enquirer’s parent company said there wasn’t any blackmail, extortion or political motivation involved in the f*ght between the tabloid and Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon.

Photos and other details about Bezos’s extramarital affair came from “a reliable source” known to Bezos -- and not from President Donald Trump, Saudi Arabia or Trump adviser Roger Stone, said Elkan Abramowitz, an attorney for David Pecker, the chairman of American Media Inc.

“It was a usual story that National Enquirer gets from reliable sources,” Abramowitz said on ABC’s “This Week” on Sunday. He didn’t name the source. “It absolutely is not extortion and not blackmail.”

It doesn’t look that way to everyone.

“AMI is in a world of hurt,” said Michael Pachter, an analyst with Wedbush Securities who has covered Amazon for years.

In a public blog post Feb. 7, Bezos published letters from lawyers representing AMI who demanded he drop a private investigation into the company -- or else it would publish more embarrassing photographs about him. Bezos accused the National Enquirer publisher of extortion.

His post referenced Pecker’s connections with the Saudis and suggested more would come to light. The Amazon founder, who owns the Washington Post, also appeared to be making references to his paper’s aggressive investigation of the murder of Jamal Khashoggi, who wrote for the paper, and the seeming reluctance of the Trump administration to hold Saudis responsible despite that a*sessment by the intelligence community.

Abramowitz suggested the letters were an attempt to resolve differences because Bezos didn’t want another story about him and AMI “did not want to have the libel against them that this was inspired by the White House, inspired by Saudi Arabia or inspired by the Washington Post.”

By emphasizing that the story about Bezos having an affair was already in the public domain, “Abramowitz was in essence admitting that they were trying to extort a statement from the owner of the Washington Post,” said Ted Boutrous, a partner at the Gibson Dunn law firm in Los Angeles. “That’s really a significant problem for the National Enquirer.”

Bezos Blackmail Charge Intensifies Proxy War With Trump

Pecker has gotten himself in -- and out -- of much trouble over the years. But f*ghting with Bezos may be a step too far. It’s doubtful Bezos is willing to let the matter drop. Rather than pay hush money he certainly could afford as the world’s richest person, he said he’d rather risk embarrassment of the publication of intimate messages or pictures -- including those “under the belt” -- than “capitulate to extortion or blackmail.”

Bezos is probably mulling whether AMI will now be in deeper trouble with prosecutors -- or whether he will draw from his deep pockets to destroy them on his own. Or both.

Cooperation Deal

Federal prosecutors are reviewing the National Enquirer’s handling of its story about Bezos to determine whether the company violated an earlier cooperation deal with prosecutors, according to two people familiar with the matter.

AMI agreed not to commit crimes as part of that deal to avoid prosecution over hush-money payments to women who claimed relationships with Trump. Michael Cohen, Trump’s former lawyer, played a pivotal role in some of the payments and has pleaded guilty to related charges.

Asked whether he’s worried that the Bezos revelations have put the cooperation agreement in jeopardy, Abramowitz responded, “absolutely not.” Abramowitz also said while AMI has sought financing from the Saudis, it “never obtained any, doesn’t have any Saudi Arabian finance.”

Bezos said last month that he and his wife, MacKenzie, were divorcing, in an announcement that came just hours before the Enquirer reported that Bezos had been having a relationship with Lauren Sanchez. Bezos hired a private investigator, Gavin de Becker, to learn how the texts between Bezos and Sanchez were obtained and “to determine the motives for the many unusual actions taken by the Enquirer.”

De Becker told The Daily Beast on Sunday that the investigation into who initially provided the texts to the National Enquirer, and why, is finished and that the results have been turned over to attorneys “for referral to law enforcement.” An investigation into what the National Enquirer and AMI did after they received the initial texts, “that investigation is ongoing,” De Becker told The Daily Beast.

Someone Close

Meanwhile, Abramowitz dangled a tantalizing new detail. He said Bezos did in fact know who the source of the story was.

“It was somebody close” to both Bezos and his girlfriend Lauren Sanchez, he told ABC’s George Stephanopoulos.

The Daily Beast, citing multiple sources inside AMI, reported Sunday that Sanchez’s brother Michael supplied the couple’s texts to the National Enquirer. Speculation about Michael Sanchez’s involvement had been swirling since news of the affair between Bezos and Lauren Sanchez first broke.

Abramowitz refused to confirm or deny speculation that the source was Bezos girlfriend’s brother -- a Trump supporter who is close to the recently indicted political operative Roger Stone.

He reiterated that it was a legitimate offer to call off the feud for mutual benefit.

“Each side had something that they wanted,” Abramowitz said.

Hey look @, trump is right here saying the National Enquirer is a credible source for news. Remember when you said Democrats get their news from the National Enquirer as an insult?

Bezos owns the Washington Post, which has been highly critical and influential in criticizing Trump. Trump has had a serious vendetta against Bezos because of all the negative press that Washington Post publishes about him. There's no evidence yet that links Trump to the blackmail attempt by the national enquirer, but I don't think anything is impossible these days.

Still an open question but the majority of the scholarship surrounding the issue has said that the Supreme Court is likely to say "no" because of executive immunity and the political question doctrine.

Trump already was trying to figure out a way to hurt Bezos with that whole US Postal service/Amazon sh*t.

It makes perfect sense.
You just have to use common sense.

I'm sure you know the list of things his campaign and a*sociates are being investigated for. Which most of them did plead guilty for.

Just so happens that Trump is in the middle of the mess with most of them.
