Yes, but it also sets a dangerous precedent.

This isn't much unlike the scandal that erupted when people who had purchased books on their Amazon Kindle had the licenses to their purchases mysteriously disappear after some time.

In the future, the concept of physical ownership of products will be all but eradicated. Everything is moving toward a direction of licensing, which diminishes the value of any product we otherwise would have owned forever.

Orwell and Huxley tried to warn us.
youre wrong anyway, car was advertised with the features therefore they did pay for it.

They do it to the battery too. Everyone had same capacity battery but if you get the lower model, it's hindered by software
Wow, this is so absurd.

This sh*t been happening in cars. The only difference now is that cars will have license agreements for its software and you may pay for a monthly subscription. That's how tech Companies survive. License agreements with license keys.

I doubt u would want an error in your software in auto pilot mode due to personal hacks..
The crazy thing is that I believe it was a true/false flag.

I agree that for the majority of folks it probably wouldn't be worth the hassle. At the end of the day though, it's great to have the option to have control over your own devices, if said consumer so chooses.

Things like this has always existed, but this may be the first big news about a company being able to track this with precision.

Typically, when something’s bought used, any lifetime warranties or whatever is provided to the original owner that bought it new and from the manufacturer is surrendered.

You wouldn't be fiddling with any of the coding, just enabling a feature thats in every Tesla, that Tesla disabled because you didn't pay X amount of dollars.

People forgot Tesla is a tech company
We're not though. We're an energy & automotive company that wants to move & been seen as techy & innovative. Dont argue with me I've been working were Im at since the beginning of the factory.

Do you have any sources on that?

That really makes no sense if it’s true. Why spend the money on the extra capacity when manufacturing the car? The software has already been developed but the price in manufacturing the batteries fluctuates due to the cost of raw materials.
Because they streamline production.

Rather than having more r&d and two different battery types and manufacturing lines/setups. Just eat the cost of making a battery that's 15kwh bigger and limit it via software.

I don't see anything wrong with it. Car Manufacturers of gasoline vehicles have had the same exact engine in two different vehicles and tuned one with less horsepower to upsell the more expensive car.

The ironic thing was that it only came out because Tesla did a good humanitarian thing and unlocked it for disaster victims.

As far as the autopilot thing goes I'm kind of in the middle of the argument.

1) Yeah the consumer should be buying the car as is with all current features.

2) Teslas argument is that the feature is tied to the owner not the car.

My argument would be that if that owner buys another Tesla does he get autopilot for free on this new car?? Because probably not, which is the opposite of Teslas argument.

Why they did it makes complete sense. Car makers want more money.

You think gas cars don't have similar tech? My car will tell me where my house and job are. It tells me when I need to go to the mechanic. I'll get a flyer from the dealer telling me to come in soon after. Your phone has the same location info the car has.

I mostly have too for the sake of convenience.

But therein lies the trap that we likely would not have opted into, looking back and putting it all in perspective.

Think of the possible consequences of this standard.

Eventually, there will be no more physical cash. And if you ever become persona non grata to the wrong corporation or powerful entity, your funds simply get switched off by the bank, if not seized altogether in the blink of an eye. It's civil forfeiture taken to a whole new extreme. To me, that's a terrifying future to anticipate. China is already beginning to implement this concept in the form of their .

Why would I argue with a worker bee?

What makes Tesla appetizing new soft and hard engineering

That's the essence of tech

If it was energy and auto alone it would go the way of every other EV failure
