Westcoast was bout that gangsta sh*t, but them n*ggas can't claim the term of being gangsta. Last time i checked that sh*t started back in the 20's with n*ggas like al capone, john d rockeffeler, john dillinger.

Not at all, man... You're probably not old enough to comment on this thread.

I love the Geto Boys and all but they were clearly influenced by East Coast Hip-Hop, as were all Southern groups in the late 80's/early 90's. Everyone was in that era! It was unavoidable. They had DJ cuts on their chorus's and had hard sample based beats. The southern accent was prevalent but there was an undeniable NY influence on virtually every song.

Does this track not sound like East Coast Hip-Hop in 1990?
Sounds More NWA than Rakim or PE too me atleast ...

I gotta agree with Carter.

I mean, not to bring up the goon that is Drake, but he throws out homages to Houston and sh*t but you don't here it in his music. He doesn't copy the style exactly and talk about it obsessively. Rocky does.

That said, I still dig Rocky's music.

IMO him being from NY and sounding like a southern rapper is all dude has. If he was from NY and rapped like an east coast rapper he'd just be another face in the crowd. Same thing if he was from the south and rapped the way he does....he'd just be another trap-rap dude trying to make it in the game.

When will you "real n*ggas" realize, the music business doesn't care about what region you rep or how real you are. They don't care about your style. When these record execs see something they can exploit for money, they're going to use it til the wheels fall off. It's got nothing to do with New York or ASAP Rocky, and where he's from or what he reps. I don't care anyway. I don't listen to the guy or that Houston rapper either, ranting on twitter of all places.

Don't you realize these record labels are pimping your dumb ignorant grill, syrup, and fried chicken coonin' a$$es. Once your trend is no longer popular, and they can't exploit you anymore guess what? They're gonna drop you like hot cakes and move on to the next big thing. You and your lil Houston homie you're co-signing are angry at the wrong person. Tell him go into that record label's office and confront the execs behind all this. Because that's who's doing it.

It an't got sh*t to do with "wack a$$ New York, eating pizza and rockin pelle pelles and koofees and sh*t." Which ain't even true no way. Too dumb to realize wehn you're being played. And once again pitting black folks against each other. The old divide and conquer. Since he's so angry, go protest in front of the labels building or something. Otherwise, you ain't doing sh*t black man. And nobody cares, believe it or not.

Exactly, they're mad at the wrong people. It's got nothing to do with anything anybody's peddling in this this thread. It's all about the msuic business and how it caters to trends. Period.

hmm i need to listen to asap then come back in this thread to comment...personally though from reading the thread, I'd rather listen to someone trying to form their own sound in a industry filled with clones instead of taking something thats known in one place and running with it, especially if they aren't from the area... in my eyes they're just another gimmick
