If we're being honest, as dope as I know he is, Jay Electronica probably belongs on this list too. Dude could've been the GOAT if he actually released material, but here we are.
Shieeeeet. He in my top 10 already

U heard his first album in 2000??

Or his demo tape to Bad Boy which got some songs from his hidden "War With The Dragon" album he holding hostage??

Or this demo from A Written Testimony that aint make the cut??

Still wish he dropped more material

i'd say a lot of those dudes had more potential than buzz.

tbh 69 had the most buzz and flopped the hardest in recent memory. might have been the biggest flop of all time considering the buzz he had leading up to the album release.
Easy to flop when you are blackballed. 55K wasn’t a bad flop honestly. Lil Reese sold 500 copies on his recent release. Gooba & Trollz went platinum.

I'm going with Jin cuz personally freestyle Fridays at the time had me thinking he was unfu*kwithable and a legend

Edit: just saw the J Electronica mention above me and I'd have sent with that too if he were on the list

the only answer is canibus

that n*ggas was as large as anybody before his album dropped
Easily, Canibus. That "4, 3, 2, 1" track really made him large, people were hyped for his debut album to drop after that. Should've never used Wyclef as a producer, that was an odd pairing to me.

No rapper on this list had the same expectations or buzz as Bis
Nah man Papoose had mad buzz

n*gga literally had songs on Hot97 every night with his KaySlay and Flex backing

And I remember everyone on his d*ck when he dropped that Alphabet slaughter track

Dude should’ve at least had one platinum selling album

I'll raise you Murphy Lee, at the height of the platinum era, Nelly was one of theost profitable artists to be next to. He was the right hand man, and girls talked about him like offset (the more mysterious member of the group, but looked like he next up type) shake ya tail feather was on one of the hottest soundtracks, had Diddy and Nelly. And from then on, I never heard from him again

Yall new Yorkers have to realize that's just new York and thst those guys came during a less profitable era. It almost became content wars. Didn't help some yalls on folks was bootlegging up and down the east coast

Nother thing I guarantee you most yall had no idea about the canibus era. For one most of yall not even 30. And if you're even 30 that era would have been clear enough for you to see the climate. Jm 33 and barely remember canibus being a legit factor, it's easier for me to judge Saigon and papoose and Murphy Lee than canibis. His singles weren't cracking mainstream everywhere.

I don’t remember much buzz for any these guys outside of the internet. No one outside of New York and the internet were checking for Saigon, papoose, j hood, etc. Murphy lee was trash and rode in on nelly’s wave.

Was Jae mills even hyped on the internet?

Canibus. I don't know if there has ever been anything like him.

Dude would be on tracks with elite lyricists, and dominate the fu*king track.

How many n*ggas can say they created a huge buzz purely from skilled of a rapper they were?
