People steal so much sh*t from Texas they don't even realize it. I'm talking bout people remixing sh*t that's 20-30 years old.

1989

@:15

Put up ya motherfu*ker steel and chill b4 that hi cappin sh*t get ya k*lled.

@:20

@1:20
Can't speak yo hand cuz that cappin and that bragging make em want yo man.

@4:20

If I claimed it ya bi*ch a*s would be high cappin.
Not just that Texas n*ggas was saying getting “crunk” since Lil Keke and Fat Pat was saying it on screw tapes. Hi cappin or not cappin we used to say that in the mid 90s in Dallas. I remember E40 saying a lot of his slang came from down south when he went to school in Louisiana and married his wife who is from Texas. I knew he wasn’t lying when he kept using “mannish” rofl that’s a old word old folks say down south. Lol

Been reading a lotta goofy sh*t

93-94

"Because we really love make stang/stain", it's the high cappa, don't make me touch ya mane"

1992
"Gossiping a*s bi*ch always on a dope dealers jock, Just because she slangin yay, got the freaky bi*ch high cappin, acting like she stuck up, know she goin that's why lil pimpin jackin, on that hoe"

1:41

92-93
"And yo frontin is another word for high cappin"
"And see, all we n*ggas was thinking about was making a stang"

First verse

93-94

"Let's Let's make a stain stain stain"

95

"All up in a n*gga face high cappin like you the mane, get up bout yo hawg"

50 seconds in

96

"I swang and bang through the projects, checking my traps while steady just breaking these tricks"

1:42

96
"I'm taking cheese from the trap like Jerry robbin Tom"

Opening line

Its some older references to trap from about 93-94 but im too high to find them sh*ts right now Memphis used trap in regards to pimpin too not just dope.

I'll try to post some more later
People were callin it the trap here WAY before 96. I’m not saying Memphis didn’t coin the term, but it wasn’t coined in 95-96. For example, OutKast and goodie mob used to make reference to it.

You beat me to my first post.

I know that sh*t was HEAVY in Texas and n*ggas in Cali was saying that sh*t too.

I'm not the biggest fan of Texas rap but any Texas fans can come through and drop some gems.

It's all for the culture.
I always wonder what artists would have made it big and the amazing albums/songs we would have gotten if Texas had broke through with Mike Jones/Paul Wall/Slim Thug/Chamillionaire.. That whole era was SO CLOSE to overtaking the ATL scene in my opinion.

And I'm from Georgia saying that. Texas music was so great back then.

Believe me, I know ATL prolly been on it since the 60s and 70s too. Its some pre 96 trap references from Memphis too I just can't think of the tracks.

We don't really know if Memphis coined the term either but it seems like it was a*sociated with pimping more than dope in its origin. I feel like it could have been used in a lot of different areas in the 60s and 70s.

Pimp game was skrong as fu*k in Atlanta too though. You can tell just by some of the natives accents and animations when n*ggas be talkin. Like that old a*s n*gga Bass be wit Casino. ATL got pimp bones in they body.

We call it jonin in Alabama but I been seeing n*ggas from the south all and up the east coast that say they called roasting capping back in the day.

All this sh*t is interesting to me the way our culture travels and changes from state to state
In Louisiana and we always said cracking, I never heard of roasting/ joning until I moved to Arkansas in 04

o/p done started some sh*t

He's not wrong. Memphis originated those terms ATL may have used "trap" in some songs too, but they didn't make a whole sub-genre til T.I. & Jeezy, Gucci came out
OutKast and Ghetto Mafia was saying trap before all the other Atl rappers

The correlation between Chicago saying STAIN and Memphis saying STANG is true as sh*t too.

If you KNOW you know

For the people not knowing: Stain/stang = Robbing somebody
Ehh I don't know how u guys use it but up here it means a stain on the sidewalk. I feel stupid tryin to explain the sh*t... But who's cares, a blood stain on pavement is how we call it....Respect to Memphis tho n Chicago

Listen, so much sh*t we think come from Hip Hop BEEN in our culture. That's why I be tryna tell n*ggas Hip Hop is not the be all to end all in regards to our culture.

You can notice a lot of sh*t in those old 70s hood movies. And I personally need to stop limiting sh*t to the 70s myself because I've been catching a lot of cultural gems in music from the 20s-50s lately.
