Thereís two types of advances is every contract one is called a Production cost grant that serve to pay for the costs of production (studio, mix, mastering etc.). Your manager has to keep the receipts so that you can show them and prove the expenses.

The advance your talking about is the Advances on royalty payment the label is not telling you what the advances are used for and the money is therefore not accounted for.

The 450k isnít guaranteed. Those are just the amount of the options that the label can pick up if the album is successful.
Correct. Sometimes if there is a bidding war tho, some people will get a huge advance off their first album. Doubt black rob was one of those guys. Back in the 90s tho the average advance was 50-75k

It’s a lot of n*ggas that can spit better than your favorite rappers. But can they make hits? That’s the difference.
Far less talented n*ggas made it as a rapper n was making hits. Take Diddy as an example here. n*gga cant really produce and he cant write his own lyrics, but he's had hits. So yes its safe to say too many ppl can make a hit if they presented the opportunity.

10 album deals were normal during this time. His career wasnít designed to recoup.
No careers are designed to recoup. 90% albums are bought by the label . Ask yourself how n*ggas was selling thousands of albums during the limewire era. Ask yourself how all these artists were selling millions of records when their main consumers hit up the bootleg man. sh*t most n*ggas tours were sponsored by corporations Vans, Pepsi, Coke, Malls

Bad Boy artists albums were glorified P Diddy albums. Arista cut the check cause they knew Diddy was a hitmaker. Most of that sh*t was Diddys promotion fees.

This interview was 10 months ago. He looks like himself here for the most part. Crazy how much his health deteriorated since then. Sad to see.

If not for him having a face mask, I would have thought this interview was mad old.

10 album deal? for 450k

I don't think you understand how bad of a deal that is

sh*t 10 album deal should be a illegal
Whooptie so 60 tracks, It isn't the album count that makes it a terrible contract is everything else such as hitting x amount of sales etc. which are most likely included in the contract. These lil n*ggas today put like 15 tracks per mixtape lmao.

If the deal covered expenses (doubtful) it seems worth it, $450k in the 90s was like having $10m today.

Nobody can sign you unless you sign the paperwork. No different than the average person going to a buy here pay here car lot for their first car and getting fu*ked over because they really need a car and donít know any better. Most people get fu*ked over at least once in life but most donít receive 450k for it. Stop crying.
Man these dudes don't wanna hear it. All they wanna hear is Puff is the devil and for some reason they also wanna hear about his s*x life. Never seen a dude who employed so many black people receive so much hate from his own people. I've never seen white people come at Puff like n*ggas do. sh*t is disgusting.

I'm pretty sure Rape N U Records that The LOX was talkin' about on that skit was a subsidiary of Bad Boy Records...and Black Rob was their star act!

I'd of bet money that 40 came out with 10 before the 90's ended but sh*t........

so the majority of 40's albums have really came out in the last 10 years..........

Yeah, the click had a couple four song EPs going back to the late 80s and before they started coming out with full length albums in the 90s. Federal was his first full length album and that wasnt until like 93.

thank you. remember nas artist quan. that dude was smart enough to realize nas was fu*king him over.

quanís deal with Atlantic was worth $2.2 million and entitled Nas with at least $220,000 from the signing. Afterwards, Nas gave Quan a 7-album deal and attempted to walk away with 50% of his publishing. The deal also charged him $50,000-60,000 for a Nas feature, even after he ďjust sold him a hit record for almost little to nothing.Ē

that means 3 nas songs. one album would be 200,000 +200,000 = 400,000

2 million - 500,000 = 1.5 million already. plus you signed 50% of your publishing away.
