450k for 10 albums, how much was that in the late 90's? What were they chargin' for studio time back then? Producing, features, clearance? That 450k doesnt sound that much when you think about how heavy Diddy was samplin back then, takin whole songs without changin much. lol

Nobody can sign you unless you sign the paperwork. No different than the average person going to a buy here pay here car lot for their first car and getting fu*ked over because they really need a car and don’t know any better. Most people get fu*ked over at least once in life but most don’t receive 450k for it. Stop crying.

But if you don’t sign some execs can take offense and blackball your career outta spite. Like Jay did Gillie.

Music industry just like Hollywood is a dirty game. No one comes out clean. You either fu*k or get fu*ked

You crazy for believing anything Gillie says. Dudeís a compulsive liar. n*gga was never making it big as a rapper. If youíre hot thereíll always be more than one deal on the table. If you signed a fu*ked up deal you either felt like that was the best deal or either that was your only offer. It falls on the person signing either way.

Always true in any business. If a company feels you can generate significant revenue for them the offers will come.

As limited as it maybe, the world more complicated than your individual life experiences. Dealing with powerful people isn’t as simple as signing a car at a dealership. You as a new artist gets approach my p fu*king diddy to sign a deal and say no it may be a wrap for your career. Especially before the days of internet stardom.

In this world there are people in power who can on a whim make you or break you. There’s levels to this sh*t. Gillie was just an example. I can show you a hundred more examples but you still wouldn’t believe me.

So here’s a video of putin sh*tting on a bunch a billionaires so maybe you can get my point.

All you idiots saying Black Rob got robbed by Puff who gave him a $450k advance for 10 albums clearly are too dumb to realize the average advance is between $40k-$60k per album and Black Rob only recorded 2 albums for Bad Boy which means he actually got an advance of $225k per album not including royalties and shows.

Also the less upfront/advance money you take the more back end money you will make because you have to pay that advance back with interest. Nothing comes free in the world.

Being hot and having talent arenít mutually exclusive lol. There have been plenty of ďhotĒ artists with minimal talent and there have been plenty of ďtalentedĒ artists that arenít hot. Being hot is what sells records and brings in revenue. Thatís what gets you a deal.

Health issues aside that's a terrible deal and terrible thinking on Rob's part. I wish he gets the support he needs because he cant get on his feet by himself. He signed a horrible contract but that's not important. What's important is he needs help right now!

10 albums is crazy off GP...

However... 450k is a hell of a lot to give up to an unproven artist that you got to break from scratch. A lot of people never think of the fact that these “labels” are often times real people with real bills and obligations...

Alot of is it fair depends on if it was a recoupable or non-recoupable advance...

But knowing Puff it was Recoupable and he was going to charge him 150k for studio time, 150k for the videos & styling, and 300k to say “TAKE THAT!!”

Puffy should have just gave him 20k to find a place... would have been worth 500k in PR... and he wouldn’t look like a hypocrite calling ppl out

If the deal covered expenses (doubtful) it seems worth it, $450k in the 90s was like having $10m today.
