Jan 14 - Boris Johnson Is Defying Trump on Chinese-Built 5G Networks

The U.S. has warned that the Chinese government is using 5G networks built by Chinese telecom giant Huawei for surveillance.

National security officials from the U.S. visited the U.K. on Monday to push their claim that allowing Chinese telecom giant Huawei access to the country’s 5G networks would be “nothing short of madness.”

Less than 24 hours later, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson suggested once again that when he does make a final decision on the matter, he will likely ignore Washington’s concerns and allow the Chinese company access to the non-core part of the U.K.’s next-generation cell phone network.

“The British public deserve to have access to the best possible technology. We want to put in gigabit broadband for everybody,” Johnson told the BBC. “Now if people oppose one brand or another, then they have to tell us what’s the alternative.”

Johnson’s comments came days after the head of MI5, Andrew Parker, said he had “no reason to think” that using Huawei technology should threaten intelligence sharing with the U.S.

On Monday, the U.S. delegation, led by deputy national security adviser Matt Pottinger, presented ministers in Westminster with new evidence claiming to show security risks posed by using the Chinese firm. For the last two years, the U.S. government has claimed Huawei has provided the Chinese government with back-door access to its equipment to conduct widespread surveillance.

One U.S. official speaking to the Guardian said that the U.S. president hopes not to fall out with Johnson over the issue, but warned, “Donald Trump is watching closely.”

Adding to the complexity of the situation is the U.K.’s imminent departure from the EU, triggering crucial trade talks between London and Washington in the coming months.

The U.S. officials in London wouldn't reveal the nature of the recent intelligence they had gathered.

The U.S. government has yet to provide any concrete evidence showing that Huawei is allowing the Chinese government to build backdoors into its equipment in order to spy on countries around the globe — allegations Huawei has continuously and strenuously denied.

For the last year, the U.S. has been engaged in a very public lobbying campaign to persuade its allies to remove Huawei equipment from their mobile phone networks. While some countries, like New Zealand and Australia, have toed the line, Germany and France have pushed back, saying they would not exclude Huawei from their 5G networks.

Huawei already provides 5G equipment to cell phone providers in the U.K. and its equipment is seen as cheaper and more advanced than rivals like Swedish company Ericsson and Nokia from Finland.

Trump said America First, even though he hasn't kept that promise or Mentality.

Looks like Boris is putting the UK first and keeping with the mentality.

You n*ggas have issues everything is about Trump with you. This isn't about America it's about a government owned Chinese company known for stealing information for personal gain and giving the Chinese goverment full access to all your citizens and official's info and data. A Chinese goverment who dont abide by internal laws and installing their own surveillance state to track every move you make to hold against you.

The world is not gonna believe the fairytales this administration tells because "probably, he believed, could have been" doesnt cut it if they have evidence against Huaweis technology show it Boris is a little bi*ch he will get in line but he at least has a small bit more backbone than Blair

The article is literally about him defying Donald Trump you dumb d*ck. And why would anyone trust any information or intel from this administration

Trump should worry less about who the UK is trusting when it comes to decisions facing their people and more about the problems hes largely ignored at home.

Simple question:

Trump told the world his intel community was full of sh*t and a bunch of liars for 95% of his presidency thus far....why should the UK believe them now?

Put America first. Solve healthcare and infrastructure here, let them handle their own sh*t.

Thats what you voted for....right?

P.S. This guy, you know the one you all like to rally behind? Pretty much proved America has been, and always will be doing what you're saying China does:

Notice how the reason for striking the target has went from Imminent threat that was going to attack 1 embassy, to oh he was planning to attack 4 embassies, to oh we don't know exactly who he was going to attack we just think he MIGHT be setting up an attack on an embassy, to "oh we approved the strike on him 7 months ago", to "Just trust the president"

In 2 weeks we've heard 7 justifications, none of them constitutionally sound, for launching the attack.

Ol boy needed to die. But this administration can't get their story straight for sh*t

It's more so warning your allies and it's not a smear. China is KNOWN for stealing protected data. Huawei got caught stealing tech from apple, they are a security liability. Everything china does is fugazi, they built a government building in africa and had the whole thing wired. If you want your business in China you have to hire Chinese workers. They did this with a train station had their workers learn the tech stole it and then used it for a Chinese company and bankrupted the German company out of their country. Boris is looking for short term gains that will cause long term problems.

He didn't say 95% of his intel was full of sh*t link me to that.

It's like saying 3 cops committed a crime now they are all dirty.

So the answer is to hand over full unchecked access to China a country labeled as your biggest threat and misuses inform given to them to supress their citizens

It is a smear because they want Americas inferior tech used instead to spy and make money off of, as someone posted Mr Snowden is currently residing in Moscow for revealing what the US was up to 7 years ago God knows what its like now. What was former CIA directors Mike Pompeos slogan? i think it went something like 'We Lied, We Cheated, We Stole"

This is about technology not an ideology, US capitalists love communist labour when it suits though. Question anything uncle Sam says and you are smeared to high heavens or Trump is posting some ignorant photoshopped picture on twitter to make his point

This dumb a*s said in the interview "What are the other options". These dumb fu*ks think putting extra cyber security will prevent the inevitable. You're 5G is so dangerous because it will soon control cities, smart cars, cameras litterally everything. Then these dumb fu*ks are running to Huawi because they are cheaper, faster, and help invest in building it in your city. This is the Chinese playbook of take over, just wait for a more trust worthy company catches up plus China is probably lying about how advance they 5G is and this dumb a*s @ is cheering this on because it's anti Trump

What trust worthy company? if its a US company their government could tell them to shut everything down on any given country at the drop of a hat so its the same issue. Even if US tech companies are not state owned they clearly do what they are told so there is no difference, the Iran deal also proves one presidents agreements dont mean sh*t to the next

If the US show evidence against Huawei and not just smears they will be in business you cannot accept the Trump administrations word no fu*king chance, they are also trying to block a Germany and Russian pipeline they are overreaching trying to tell everyone what to do in a way China has never come close to recently outside of their territory

How ironic he would make a post like this right now

I disagree with him on that it sets a bad standard. Also apple isn't doing it for Goodwill they know if they do their sales will tank.
