If your movie costs 400 mill, and you pull in ,320 mill in the theaters you a tally lost money, you will probably break even and have a slight profit when you go to vod, Blu ray, and sell to cable but you lost and it isn't a big hit.

The fact you can see numbers and not know that a negative number is bad tells everyone all they need to know about your ability to objectively evaluate if movies are successful or not.

It was projected to break 1 billion world wide and it failed.

It most likely broke even from home numbers but it was likely a loss at the box office for the reasons I gave before, p&a and theater cut of revenue.

If rock didn't want to do a sequel why is he doing a sequel now ?

If that movie would have broke a billy, the producers would have done a sequel, but they didn't and the rock moves on because he thought he was hot sh1t. All his projects failed.
