Building credit worthiness shouldn't mean taking on debt as it previously has. I like this idea. Not her, but the idea.

The Cash is King mindset fu*ked me once due to having Accumulated Capital, No Debt, But a 400 Credit Score due to no revolving trade lines for an extended period of time. It took me 16-24 Months of opening new trade-lines and revolving debt to get back to 780+. This will help to never allow that to happen again and help put an end to this type of Economic Oppression...ijs...

Not 100% sold on it but its a start?...

but everyone doesnt go by that experian score

Most banks or credit cards go by equifax or transunion about 80 percent
Better find a credit agency that does. Capital one I know for sure goes by Experian.

She has a point I know n*ggas that fu*k their credit up just to pay rent. I know people that can't pay anything but their rent. But they always pay it and pay it on time so they should get credit for that sh*t.
lol you really think this is going to help people?

If they give up everything to pay rent. And you add MORE things to credit that they'll be ignoring... to make the one payment. While still missing on the things they previously missed... How is that credit helping?

It's called

"Credit Builder"

You pay an extra 5.99 on each rent payment so they can open a line of credit for you. Look into it and don't miss a payment.

Man yall really gotta stop going back and forth with one another over political ideas. These are only ideas. This hasn't been implemented into society and most likely never will. If you like the idea cool, if you don't cool too.

...no, they shouldn't. that's prejudicial to lower socio-economic people of all groups. And seeing as how poverty can be a generational affliction, you're effectively condemning more people to social immobility.

But that's probably the point.
Prejudiced towards people who don’t pay their rent? What does not paying your bills have to do with social-economic status?

Sorry but it already works like this! Only the ignorant of credit don't know that your utility payments and rent don't already affect your score. She's just saying sh*t to try to sound good. I hate this bi*ch. Furthermore, people who can "only" pay their rent don't deserve credit to buy more sh*t they can't afford to pay off.

Realistically. How many people will save up and pay cash for a home? If you learn to be financially responsible, using credit can be to your advantage in the long and short term.

-Taking on a 0% auto loan is smarter than paying cash out right. A CD over a 5-yr period can earn 2-3% on that cash. Index funds can return 5%+ on the same period of time. Hold on to the money and make it work for you.

-Taking on a home loan can be smarter than paying one off. Vanguards Total Stock Market index fund has a 14.71% in just the last 10 years. The average home loan today is 4.5%. Do the math.

-Between my girl and I, we paid for our flights & hotels to New Zealand for 2 weeks using cash back/miles rewards. You don't qualify for the most beneficial credit card rewards without a good credit score.

-You're not going to get these lower rates to take advantage of these opportunities without a good credit score.

We pay for everything with credit cards, pay them off every month and both have 800+ credit scores. Y'all keep blaming credit card companies, but the real villain is yourself for not learning to become financially responsible. I'm a high earner now, but I've been doing this since I was earning $36K a year. Learn to budget, don't spend more than you make, set some aside for a rainy day. I use Mint.com to budget and track my expenses...it makes it too easy with technology these days.

fyi

In most cases, your on-time utility and rent payments are not reported to credit bureaus. But that doesn't mean you can walk out on any of these bills with impunity.

You might think every time you pay utility bills on-time, it helps build your credit. For loan and credit card payments, that’s true. But many bills—including rent and utilities—are not routinely reported to credit bureaus like credit card and loan payments.

Unfortunately, making timely rent and utility payments will not help build credit. But failing to make those payments can lead to collections actions that will almost certainly damage your credit. If you fall more than a month or two behind on any bill—from cable to electric—the company may send your past due account to a collections agency. As soon as they do, the collections agency can (and usually will) notify the credit reporting bureau.
