Nov 29 - Mexico says won’t allow US armed intervention over cartels

Mexico says it bluntly objects to any potential cross-border armed operations targeting the country’s soil by the United States after the latter vows to blacklist the Mexican drug cartels.

"Armed foreigners cannot intervene in our territory. We will not allow that," said President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador on Friday, AFP reported.

Earlier this week, US President Donald Trump pledged to put the cartels on the US’ so-called Foreign Terrorist Organizations’ list. “They will be designated," Trump said in a radio interview.

Trump’s remarks came after the cartels allegedly slew nine members of Mexico-based American-Mexican Mormon community on November 4.

His remarks, however, conjured up resentment among both Mexican nationals and politicians due to their bringing back memories of the US’ long history of territorial aggression against their country, including a 1848 war, during which the US appropriated half of Mexico’s expanse.

"Since 1914 there hasn't been a foreign intervention in Mexico and we cannot permit that," Lopez Obrador said, referring to the US occupation of the port of Veracruz over a century ago.

Trump, though, rejected the likelihood of US drone attacks against the Mexican territory. His Mexican counterpart also called it unlikely that “a decision is taken that we consider affects our sovereignty.”

Nevertheless, Lopez Obrador a*serted that his country “will act within the framework of international law” in the event of any interventionist move by the United States.

Mexico City has also said it would seek a high-level meeting with US officials to present the Mexican government's concerns, which has to do with Washington’s actions. The country, which shares a 3,200-kilometer (nearly 2,000-mile) border with the US, has long complained about the illegal flow of American-made weapons onto its territory.

Lopez Obrador became president last year on campaign pledges that included standing up against Trump’s “aggressive bullying tactics.”

Both before and after becoming president in 2016, Trump would take a hard stance against Mexican immigrants, repeatedly accusing them of being “criminals” and “rapists.” He has also spent a good part of his incumbency, trying to force Congress to approve of budget to build a corner-to-corner wall along the common border

They don’t need to stop anyone. The cartels would just start targeting us troops, or their family members, there’s no stopping sh*t until the us stops their racist war on drugs and stop trying to influence politics in Latino countries, but like you said, there is no stopping the us so the bodies will just continue to pile. Adding us soldiers just means more meat for the grinder.

Securing the border is our job Mexico is a sovereign democratic nation

We should not be dictating how they run their nation, we have our own nation to run

Majority of Those refugees are coming from Mexico’s southern border not Mexico

Cartels ain’t sh*t to play with.

What if they start targeting US citizens vacationing to send a message.

Torturing muahfu*kas on some “If you call us terrorist, we will show you how terrifying we can be...” carved in some young white teenage kids torso, hanging from a bridge...

How long you think that sh*t will last if that starts to happen...

Somebody needs to remind them...

1) They don’t run d*ck on this continent.

2) If they refuse to do anything about the cartels...They’re leaving us no choice.

3) They share a border with us. If they can’t secure their own country then what sovereignty are they claiming exactly?

This.

You dudes vastly overestimate these dudes. Pablo Escobar died shoeless and dirty on a hood rooftop. El Chapo will die in a US prison in solitary confinement.

As much money and power as you think they have, they are nothing to the US and the money we throw at defense and homeland security annually.

That sh*t they pulled where they arrested El Chapos son and he started k*lling and demanding his release?

We don’t do that sh*t here.

If the cartels harmed US civilians on US soil...Mexico would become Syria.

Mexican cartel isn't some brain dead street gang operating out of the hood in LA.

They are an organization that supplies drugs throughout the world, launders money through huge businesses, and are in cahoots with corrupt officials in high ranks throughout the world.

Sure, they handed El Chapo over to the U.S. That was a chess move

Mexican officials went after Chapos son, it ended up in chaos for Mexico. Go look at the videos of the firef*ght of the cartel against the military. It isn't some kid sagging his pants shooting a stolen gun while running from the cops. It's large trucks being burned to block off streets, and pickup trucks patrolling with machine guns. Check out the news articles of Cartel shooting down military helicopters. In these countries of central and south america, they actually die for what they believe in, they don't snitch for a lower sentence when they get picked up for a bag of dope at the park. they melt, bury, hide, and hang bodies in the middle of the street.

Look what happened after all of this Remember the judge who was going to try El chapo in his last case? Two men caught him jogging outside his home and k*lled him. Cartel is all in or nothing.

You think the Cartel won't send a message? They've done it before. Mexico is not stupid enough to let the U.S. instigate a war that would carry over INTO the united states and force a real war against american citizens. You aren't taking into account how many operations the cartel runs inside the united states, and how easy it is to drop bodies for absolutely nothing. Mexico will protect their investment at all costs, that investment is moving drugs into the united states where the customers reside at. United States is the #1 drug consumer of the world.

I partially agree with this. We are holding el chapo and there isn't sh*t happening to anyone who works for the bop/doj that family k*lled missing sh*t only works over there no one going to mexico to f*ght a war would be identified like that and be worried about that sh*t If America did roll in with drones tanks and heavy armour we would totally destroy the cartel, but their government is so corrupt that it wouldn't last long and someone new would pop up. we would ruin their economy. It would be iraq all over again. There would be a lot of guerrilla warfare. The police state over there is really under numbered and out gunned so all the sh*t you see happening there is a reflection of corruption and underpower

They are already fu*king with the white youth by flooding the “heartland” with drugs..it’s the main reason Trump wants to go after them...Trump doesn’t give a damn about them Mexican PO’s getting murked or those dual Mex-US citizens getting capped.

Labeling them Terrorist would be a game changer...And the cartels know it. Not because of the military threat, through boots on the ground or drone strikes. They ain’t stressing that, they ready for war.

It’s because of the money.

Any bank that banks with terrorist groups face legal sanctions, not to mention the corporations that have indirect ties to the cartels just by operating in the country, they will be effected and start vetting certain ppl they deal with, were they would turn a blind eye before.

It would also effect identified cartel members movement globally . Which effects business.

The cartels ain’t just going to lay down and take it...so if my scenario is so crazy...what do you think they would do?

All those incidents you're referring to are crimes against Mexican authority which means d*ck

Nothing you stated here is retaliations against U.S. alphabet boys

The Cartel will not and cannot "send a message" to the US because it will be a suicide mission

If you think otherwise you're grossly over exaggerating how powerful you think the Cartel is by you're implying they can go toe to toe with the most powerful army on the planet

I guess you also think they can win a war against China or Russia

No, they were just relevant points as to WHY the MEXICO GOVERNMENT won't ALLOW the UNITED STATES to conduct an OPERATION against the CARTEL.

I used upper case on some of the key points so you don't deviate your attention to just one concept and ignore the rest.

Concepts for you to understand: If the Cartel will shoot down a Mexican military helicopter in Mexico, they have 0 problems ordering bodies to drop at a middle school in the middle of Idaho. Why the fu*k do you think Mexico would say no to the US solving their problem?

The point I'm trying to make is, even Mexican government knows what would happen if they allowed US into Mexico, has nothing to do with the power of the US military, it has everything to do with the principles behind the Cartel organization.

LOL fam you're wrong

The cartel ain't touching no kids in Idaho just stop it

If they were that bout it they would've already retaliated for El Chapo's capture

If Trump sent troops to get El Chapos son tomorrow the Cartel wouldnt be able to do d*ck about it

Shooting down some cheap Mexican helicopter aint the same as shooting down a couple Black Hawks

Us Govt> Mexican army/Cartels combined and multiplied by 100.

Our country has the ability to drone strike someone anywhere in the world...think about that. Not even gonna get into actual special forces or other equipment/technology we have at our disposal.
