Nah homie, no clowning here. I made my fair share of horrible edits too. In the beginning expect them to look a little rough. Just keep practicing. You'll get better.

Also, quality of the photo makes a difference as well.

Look at this picture, it is of Al Bundy. Cool picture but the quality is really bad. In this one, I could get away with sloppy editing cause the picture quality hides it.

I gave it a try, but used another image instead of the Grinch. In hindsight I see the Grinch would've been easier because there was only the blue and it's easy to see the difference between the blue and the transparent background.

In the post preview it looked really bad, lot of white space around the image that I wasn't seeing when looking at it in paint.net. Tried to clean it up some and resize it. It still looks tiny to me plus it's in the middle of the screen.

If anyone has any suggestions or constructive criticism they would like to share I would appreciate it. Thinking of rotating the smiley slightly to make it like the classic smiley.

Pretty darn good for your first one. A few suggestions... upload it to imgur.com and you can see the places you missed before you post it. It has a background that allows you to see mistakes better. If it looks wrong, you can still go back and edit before you post it to BX.

It probably looks small because you need to crop your canvas.

Thank you sir for the advice and this excellent tutorial. I didn't realize you had a section on cropping and resizing on the first page until you mentioned it.

I uploaded the image in imgur and saw some white space around the image so I went in and erased some around those areas and used the paintbrush to fill in a few spots. I think this one looks a lot better. I'm definitely going to keep working on getting better with smileys and image editing in general. Again thanks for your help and this extremely useful thread.

I looked into it, and yeah I was right. Your smileys canvas was huge. Lots of wasted space. Just crop it down and look... gets bigger.

Glad this helped. You are on your way and before you know it, if you keep practicing it will become second nature. It used to take me forever, now I can edit quick as hell. Not only that, when I was still learning, I even taught myself other things about the program I didn't previously know.

I'll keep working on it. I'm probably going to throw a santa hat on this one and then try some other stuff. Once I feel confident with smileys I'll check out your gif thread. I'm sure it's just as informative as this one.

The gif thread is just one way to do it. If you have Sony Vegas, there is a easier way.
