Next week AT&T will report its 3rd quarter 2019 earnings and according to even AT&T, it will likely report losses of over 1 million TV subscribers. In a letter sent to shareholders back in September, AT&T started to prepare them for the news saying:

“Coming into the year, the company expected some tough content negotiations, specifically for retransmission deals. Stephens said the company has been holding a hard line in negotiations, which is allowing it to achieve its content cost management goals. In the third quarter, Stephens said the company expects an incremental 300,000 to 350,000 premium video losses above the previous quarter’s premium video results, driven by: aggressively managing costs with retransmission negotiations, some of which resulted in content provider black outs; and from limiting promotional pricing.”

image In the second quarter of 2019, AT&T lost over 778,000 TV subscribers. Adding an additional 300,000 would push them over 1 million subscribers lost in just three months. Some have even suggested that this 1 million number may be low as AT&T is bleeding subscribers.

Even with a 1 million TV subscriber loss, AT&T does not seem to be doing much to try and keep them. Just last week AT&T announced a new round of price hikes as high as $15 a month on AT&T TV NOW customers. AT&T seems to be ok with this as they told their investors back in September that profits should go up because fewer customers will be on promotional rates

“In 2020, AT&T expects premium TV subscriber trends to improve due to far fewer customers on promotional pricing and the nationwide launch of AT&T TV, which delivers a premium streaming experience. Other factors that may help improve Entertainment Group EBITDA beyond 2019 include broadband growth due to increased fiber penetration and availability of higher speeds; a higher-quality video and broadband customer base with lower churn and higher ARPU; continued cost management; advertising growth from Xandr and less pressure from declining legacy products.” AT&T said in their later to investors

For now, we will have to wait to see exactly how bad the AT&T numbers are when they announce them next week. What we do know is that they are likely not done losing subscribers as AT&T’s newest price hike won’t take effect until the 4th quarter of 2019

I get it. That sh*t is still too much money tho. usually wait a model or two (flagship only) and buy the phone outright and my plan is 70 a month for everything. If I add a line it’s 30 a month. That’s why I still got my 6s plus. I’ll prob get an 8+ or xs when I feel like I can buy it cash or this one stop working.

Got in on the early promotion with DirectvNow so I ain't going nowhere.
My sh*t is either $50 or $55 per month for mad channels and HBO is free. I pay extra for Starz when Power is on (now) then I'll cancel Starz when Power goes off and I'll get Showtime when Billions comes on. I'm set.
Plus I got Verizon unlimited for my cell so I can get that free year of Disney + when it drops. My sh*t is straight for the time being.

Bout to hop on their prepaid promo they are running for my 2nd line. 8gb for 25 a month with rollover and hot spot. Currently only using 1 gig a month out of 10 gb on tmobile for 50 a month. Might as well cut it in half, i m at the crib all day on wifi for real so no need for crazy data.

They took my military discount. They told me I had to jump on their “new” plans to be able to keep the discount. I stuck with the old plan because the loss of the military discount wasn’t more than the increase I would have with the “new” plans. I still have the plan that they offered when they first purchased DirecTV. Have nine lines with unlimited everything and only pay $360 and that’s with an iPhone monthly charge on there as well.

I would've stuck with the old plan too if it was cheaper. I came over from t-mobile so my phone line was new but my directtv was like 5 years old and they still put my discount on there

I pay for my phone, wife, mom and a hotspot. So that’s four. My mother in-law, father in-law, brother in-law and his son get paid by them so that’s four more. My ninth line is my twin sister and she Venmo’s me her portion monthly. Basically everyone saves a lot of money. My in-laws pay me $160 and my sister gives me $40. My sister was paying $80 or so a month for just her line and My in-laws were well over $200 for their lines before they jumped on my plan.
