Az definitely the most underrated mc lyricist of all time. Busta Rhymes gets his due from alot of og legends and younger dudes like Dababy.

Both don't get the credit they deserve but AZ more lyrical and his catalog way better than Busta sh*t.

Side Note: How many times do you think Busta frequents Golden Corral in a week?

az is not underrated but under advertised, most people who say they listen to rap dont even know him, but i never heard anyone say he was trash or not lyrical

AZ because he never saw the mainstream success that Busta has seen.

But that being said Busta is a more well rounded artist so I get why he blew.

Busta more underrated in actual hip hop circles, AZ more underrated(Or more accurately overlooked) in the mainstream.

“Eminem’s monotone and multisyllabic delivery over the Jazz-tinged track for “Infinite” drew its inspiration from AZ’s lyrical exercise “Rather Unique” from The Visualiza’s classic debut album, 1995’s Doe Or Die.

“I know I read something in Vibe where he said that AZ and Nas influenced him,” added Sosa. “And that was a good look. I appreciate that a whole lot.”

he studied and got inspired by both Nas and Az and tried to emulate their styles, it’s the reason why he didn’t blow up right off the back. He found his way later on with the shock value shyt and it worked for him

we were just talking about where he got his style from before he blew up.... and name a lyrical rapper that nas hasnít influenced from the mid 90s/early 2000s....i feel thats a much more tougher question

and thatís a respectable top 5, and iím not the biggest Em fan, but in terms of technically putting words together (even if the subject is crazy and doesnít make sense) then yes he is.

I really donít have a holy grail top 5.... but off the dome, hereís who i got in no specific order:

Biggie
Pac
Nas
Jay
Black Thought

honorable mentions
Lupe
Big Pun

This. Purists KNOW how AZ do. I think busta's animated visuals and delivery detract MASSIVELY from how intricate his wordplay actually is

I feel the same bout those two artists as well. Especially elzhi. The preface album was fu*king amazing he did everything on that album. I use to have him in my top ten just off that album... But he stop releasing music because of depression.. smh
