Mar 10 - 26 Year Old Black Female Teacher Missing for Days in New Orleans

Didn't see this posted on here, sad story. Cute chick too.

As the disappearance of teacher Terrilyn Monette nears its one-week mark, New Orleans police on Friday released a few updates on their investigation. Detectives have been deploying various search resources around the clock since the 26-year-old California native was reported missing, said officer Hilal Williams, a spokeswoman for the New Orleans Police Department.

NOPD detectives have identified and interviewed the man who was the last person seen with Monette around 4 a.m. last Saturday at Monette's car in the parking lot of Parlay's bar in the 800 block of Harrison Avenue in Lakeview, Williams said. Monette reportedly told acquaintances whom she had been drinking with at Parlay's that she planned to sleep in her car before driving home, because she had had a few drinks.

Monette's cell phone stopped working four hours before she disappeared, while she was at Parlay's, Williams said. The phone has not been turned on since, making it difficult for detectives to track her possible location.

Detectives have reviewed surveillance footage from nearby businesses, but Wiliams said she could not comment on the contents because of the ongoing investigation.

Police do not believe Monette ever made it back to her apartment Saturday, Williams said.

Monette's car was not equipped with any tracking devices, Williams said.

Police could not release further details, as the case remains ongoing, Williams said.

An energetic and enthusiastic teacher, Monette moved from California to New Orleans to work as a TeachNOLA fellow last year. She has been teaching her own second-grade class at Woodland West Elementary School this year, where faculty said she had already boosted student achievement.

The school now has a void, said a*sistant Principal Connie Groue. Though faculty members are having trouble coping, she said, they are trying to remain calm for the sake of the students. "They trust adults to have answers, and we just can't give them answers right now."

Monnette is described as being 5 feet, 8 inches tall, and weighs 180 pounds. She has a light brown complexion with long brown hair. She was last seen wearing a pink and yellow sweater with blue jeans. Monnette has a tattoo on her left leg.

Police ask anyone with information on this missing person case, including the location of Monnette's 2012 black two-door Honda Accord, Louisiana license plate WUN494, to contact NOPD at 504.821.2222.

Friends have established the Terrilynn Monnette Fund at Regions Bank to aid Monnette's family with their search efforts and accommodations while they are in New Orleans.
