It's roughly a $10 billion company. Yes, NYC is the largest media market and he can rely heavily on opportunities that other companies can give his players (financially), to sell them on the knicks. That hasn't worked out at all. Dolan's money comes from the company... the company is public, which means he has a duty to his investors to make profit. Profit comes before the teams being any good. That market has consistently shown that they'll support that team even if the product is absolute garbage. Bell, Rogers and Tanenbaum own MLSE. Bell is about a $30 billion company and Rogers a bit more. Both those companies are public, so the same thing applies. Profit comes first. It just so happens the raptors are such a young team in a unique market that peak level profits have not been realized yet. So where it might not make sense for Dolan to throw away money because profits won't increase, it's definitely worth it for MLSE. It's not like any of the owners are like Balmer or the new guy in Brooklyn, or the old guy in brooklyn where the expense doesn't matter at all and the money is all personal wealth and they answer to no one. Also, if you don't know what MLSE did to get and to keep Masai, then you really don't understand the whole picture.

Yup, people forget that Bell/Rogers which basically own the Raptors also own the two national sports channels and two of the larger television providers.

Masai keeps TV ratings up and skyrockets their pocketbook all around.

NBA Africa starts in March 2020 so, if he wanted to be president of that league, then he would have to leave the raptors. That's not a part-time gig. He's already running Basketball without borders and he has his Giants of Africa project so, that's what i would be most nervous about.

Someone on here said that they are glad that Masai is not america because there is no threat of losing him because he wants to go home. Well, that's EXACTLY the threat. If he wants to go home to Africa, all he really has to do is guage how serious the NBA is about Africa. They putting a 7 team league there that is starting in 4 months... if the money really pumping like that, and if Masai wants that job... it's all already set up for him.

That's not necessarily the case. The MSG company is a sports business... their priority is sports. Maybe they can make a stupid offer and get away with it because it's for the benefit of their core sports business.

Bell and Rogers, their core business is NOT sports. They are media companies. This coming 5G problem that has legal ramifications, and is forcing countries to pick sides, issues with state secrets and intellectual properties and not to mention, will cost billions to implement once all those other things are figured out... that's gonna take precedence over whether some guy on the basketball team wants a raise.

Have you noticed that since Rogers decided to waaaaay over pay to have ALL the NHL games, they've been gutting their tv business? All kinds of cost cutting measures across the board. Similar to the huge cuts that ESPN has undergone over the last few years.

It's not just as simple as "oh, they are worth billions more, therefore they can afford to pay Masai more". Nah, a lot of the cash is spoken for.. on both sides... but particularly the MLSE side.
