BLACK PANTHER Nominated for 12 CRITICS CHOICE AWARDS

Fox Searchlight’s “The Favourite,” directed by rising art-house star Yorgos Lanthimos, led the field of film nominees for the 24th annual Critics’ Choice Awards, the Broadcast Film Critics a*sn. announced Monday. The period comedy, a biting send-up of the court of Queen Anne, received 14 nominations including best picture, director, actress (Olivia Colman), supporting actress (Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz), best comedy and a host of craft category mentions.

A few paces behind was Disney’s “Black Panther” with 12 nominations and Universal’s “First Man” with 10. Disney’s “Mary Poppins Returns,” Warner Bros.’ “A Star Is Born” and Annapurna’s “Vice” each earned nine nominations. Netflix’s “Roma” scored eight nominations while Universal’s “Green Book” picked up seven.

Those films joined Focus’ “BlacKkKlansman” and Annapurna’s “If Beale Street Could Talk” in the best picture field, historically a prognosticative snapshot of the motion picture Academy’s ultimate lineup.

In the BFCA’s genre categories (action, comedy and sci-fi/horror), films such as “Avengers: Infinity War,” “Mission: Impossible – Fallout,” “Crazy Rich Asians,” “Game Night,” “Annihilation” and “A Quiet Place” all received recognition.

Winners will be revealed at the 24th annual Critics’ Choice Awards gala, broadcast on The CW Network on Sunday, Jan. 13, 2019.

She most definitely did. I didn't like the movie too much, but Collette's performance, along with the daughter, deserves high praise.

I agree, we dont need anymore validation. But I'm still proud of everyone involved in making this movie and I have no shame in celebrating its accomplishments, big or small.

Only thing that needs to be done is we need to go out and see Black Panther 2 with the same energy as the 1st.

The bad CGI and average f*ght choreography are the only things stopping Black Panther from being the undisputed GOAT comicbook movie.

We can make the same nitpick about The Dark Knight's extremely trash f*ght scenes. But fortunately everything else about the movie elevates it into greatness.

Let’s not cheapen the legitimization of CBMs by touting black panther as an Oscar caliber movie. Once the hype wore off it was a fresh and enjoyable action movie with some filler and a really mediocre finale. It’s not sniffing TDK or infinity war for that matter

Besides the fear of being called racist or a c00n for thinking otherwise, what made this movie great? If we're comparing it to any other movie, BP was just average with fancy CGI rendering.

In total, the Ryan Coogler-helmed*Black Panther*earned its place on four shortlists — Makeup and Hairstyling, Original Score, Original Song, and Visual Effects.*Avengers: Infinity War*found itself on two shortlists — Original Score and Visual Effects — while Peyton Reed's*Ant-Man and the Wasp*earned a Visual Effects mention.

The shortlists released today are for the Academy's more minor categories. Marvel Studios has launched significant "For Your Consideration" campaigns for both*Black Panther*and*Infinity War, pushing the movies in most categories.
