I'm not trying to begin to understand the sort of damage control or burden that NASA and other space agencies are going through in 2019 but I'm not sure how we went from questioning water on mars to having pictures like this of craters on Mars. The below article states that this Russian spacecraft that took the pic has been circling Mars for 15 years.... image

image

There's no skating on Mars ó not yet anyway ó but a stunning new photograph of the Martian surface shows an ice-filled crater that looks a bit like a giant rink.

The photograph ó taken by the European Space Agency's Mars Express spacecraft and released by the agency on Thursday ó shows the Korolev Crater, a dish-shaped basin on the broad plain that surrounds the Martian north pole.

The impact crater is almost 51 miles wide and more than a mile deep. It holds roughly 530 cubic miles of perpetually frozen water ice, which is almost five times the volume of Lake Erie.

The photo was stitched together from five images captured by a high-resolution camera aboard the uncrewed spacecraft, which has been circling the Red Planet for the past 15 years. Each of the five "strips" used to create the composite image was taken during a separate orbit.

So if they just defrost all of the ice, there will be plenty of oxygen for everyone?

Flat earthers can now shut he hell up. The image is so large that it has to be stitched together. The same process required to take a pic of the earth

Now on the subject? DAMN.

EDIT: this is the actual photo

The one at the OP is a simulation (accurate though) on how it would look like with the nekkid eye. The 5 image ID’s show up here

I don't think you read the whole article bro

That simple picture you see there took FOUR orbits around Mars, each orbit the strip is added until it has enough strips for a complete image and is stitched together to make the image you see.

You have to keep in mind, when they send out these unmanned spacecraft, they CAN'T upgrade it. So the tech on the spacecraft is 15 years old or MORE.

What a space company can do is improve the technology that renders the images when the 15 year old spacecraft sends data back.

In essence 15 years orbiting mars is not that long in terms of space study, especially when you can't really upgrade the technology you sent out there

As of right now it would be impossible, mars is cold as hell

An average temperature of -63 C and can get as low as -123 C

i just questioned the last 20 years of NASA pondering if there's water on Mars and how if we're getting this picture now.... then the earlier evidence of there being water on Mars should have been much more widely known

Does Mars have an ozone layer?

I think your a bit confused bro. Ozone layer is more about the amount of protection a planet has from Suns radiation rays

To answer your questions Mars has an Atmosphere made up of gasses just like earth, is just that it is made of a different ratio and mixture of gases, and doesn't have the ozone layer which is kind of like a naturally created magnetic field that blocks out all of the suns harmful rays that would k!ll us instantly if Earth had no ozone

Mars atmosphere doesn't have any oxygen gas so it is impossible for it to have an ozone layer

People live in the northern territories and it regularly gets to -60c there, I'm sure if scientists put resources into it they could develop a way for us to survive in -120c because it's not that far off.
