When technology can read minds, how will we protect our privacy?

Published on Dec 18, 2018

Tech that can decode your brain activity and reveal what you're thinking and feeling is on the horizon, says legal scholar and ethicist Nita Farahany. What will it mean for our already violated sense of privacy? In a cautionary talk, Farahany warns of a society where people are arrested for merely thinking about committing a crime (like in "Minority Report") and private interests sell our brain data -- and makes the case for a right to cognitive liberty that protects our freedom of thought and self-determination.

Yea we are a LONG way from this even being remotely real. We need to first get our data rights back before we even start worrying about this.

Won't be that long. Maybe 20-30 years.

Easy. Stop using new technology and create your own space. Make backups of necessary information and store it locally and or in print. My guess is the more they try and control the more people will f*ght back. BitTorrent, Tor, crypto etc. not every hacker is an enemy of the people

it will be in a LONG time, but believe me: once this actually becomes official, most people would already be onboard due to the slow convincing process done over the years:

- "Mass murder attempt foiled via brain scanning technology"
- "Cold case finally Solved: murder suspect captured and sentenced thanks to the newly implemented criminal neurological database research, a brain reader linked evidence to the 22 year old case"
- "Cure for brea*t cancer discovered by combining 7 doctors and 15 researchers brain database of their personal experience aggregated by AI to bring about the cure"

in 30 years, likely most people will be like "well it's about time!" and people opposing this will be looked at as either trying to "hide" something, having an "archaic" mindset or simply being Christian
