Apr 7 - Florida teacher offered $200 to molest 2-year-old, claims s*xual addiction: Update

A now-fired school teacher with a side gig as a babysitter claims he has a s*xual addiction but never molested a child despite offering $200 to be alone with a 2-year-old girl at a Florida motel, investigators said in a newly released arrest report.

The shocking request came in late March after a 39-year-old father posted an ad on Craigslist looking for someone to split the costs of a motel room for a few days as he waited to move into a new home, according to the Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office. The man wrote in his post that he had a young daughter and asked, “No weirdos or drugs, please,” authorities said.

But the man soon heard from a person who turned out to be worse than a “weirdo.” Xavier Alexander, 27, responded to the post and allegedly asked, “Would I ever be alone with your daughter?”

The father told them no and contacted the sheriff’s office. Deputies reviewed the text messages and decided to go undercover to learn about the suspect’s intention with the toddler.

During the conversation that ensued, the fourth-grade teacher offered to pay for two nights of the motel room if he could be alone with the child, according to the report. The investigator posing as the father agreed to the proposal and asked the suspect to wear a condom, authorities said.

Alexander showed up to the Super 8 motel in Lantana last Thursday carrying the $200 he had promised as well as a condom stashed in his shoe, according to the sheriff’s office. He was arrested at the scene and charged with solicitation of a minor and traveling to meet with a minor for s*x.

The accused perv, who is being held on $1 million bail, reportedly told police he has a s*xual addiction but denied ever molesting a child. A public defender representing the suspect said her office does not comment on pending cases.

Alexander taught at Grove Park Elementary School in Palm Beach Gardens, but the district fired him this week after learning about the allegations. District officials said there was no evidence he committed any crimes on school property or with any of their students.

The suspect was also listed as a babysitter on Care.com and other nanny websites, according to investigators. In a statement to the Daily News after Alexander’s arrest last week, Care.com called the allegations “frightening and truly disturbing.”

“Upon learning of this arrest, we promptly removed this person’s profile and notified families with whom he had been in contact with that he is no longer on our platform,” the statement reads.

“We have proactively reached out to local law enforcement and stand ready to a*sist in their investigation,” a company official said, adding that all caregivers listed on the website have completed a background check.

The sheriff’s office urged anyone who suspects their child was a victim to contact the agency.
